I have completed all the steps required prior to posting the hijackthis log and have seen some improve. dnaads recommending I run a registry cleaner and inqwire remain persistant problems. I also lose connections to the internet in about 5-10 minutes and must restart to reconnect.

Symantec antivirus is disabled now and firewall is still running.

Below is my hijackthis log. I am rushing before I lose connection again, so if you need more details. Thank you for your help.

Please download LQfix.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-Click LQfix.exe and click Next > Next > Install.
  • Leave the default settings, if you change them, the fix will Fail!
  • Now make sure the "Launch LQfix" box is checked.
  • Click the Finish button, after clicking the Finish button the fix will start.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Your system will now reboot afterwards.
  • Please be patient after the reboot, there is a script running in the background that needs to complete.
Now do a scan with HiJackThis and post a new log by using Add Reply

I have run the LQfix as directed and the latest hijackthis log is below. When the system locks up, the task manager reports CPU usage at 100 percent with a process called IAMAPP.EXE consuming the largest portion of memory. Is this a cause or symptom of the problem? Thank you for your help.

If we reach resolution, what is your advice on which firewall and antivirus programs to run? I have a perpetual license for use of Symantec firwall and antivirus through DoD. Is this a good way to go?

1. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove and uninstall the following.

Viewpoint Manager

2. Then post a new Hijackthis log here in a reply.

Back from a business trip. My computer is already running much better including a Symantec firewall reaction to Viewpoint Manager attempting to access the internet which I blocked while removing it. The firewall had not responded to anything for quite some time. I also have not seen a dnaadds or inqwire popup since I powered up today, a welcome development.

The new log is below. I appreciate your help very much.

Fix this in Hijackthis.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Then Your log is clean :tazz:

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.
