Hi mistaguy1 and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. If you haven't logged in go to Geeks to Go and do so. Then proceed to item a.

If you already have logged in, go directly to item a.

a. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window.
b. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
c. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time. DO NOT UPGRADE TO SP2 AT THIS TIME
  • Click HERE for the update.
  • Apply the update.
  • REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM
4. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

5. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Close ALL windows except HJT

B. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

C. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren

Sorry, but i couldn't install the Hijack this that you wanted me to download. There was some error saying :

C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\Hijackthis.exe

An error occured while trying to rename a file in the destination directory:
MoveFile failed; code 5.
Access is denied.

Click retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file(not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation.

Help me please. :tazz:

1. Then go into MY Computer, click on the C:\ drive icon and create a new folder called HJT. C:\HJT\

2. Then take your current copy of HijackThis from your Temp File and Move it to this newly created Folder. It should look like this C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe

3. Then please continue with the other procedures as outlined in my previous post.

Regards,

Trevuren

By the way, I am currently using version 1.97 of hijackthis since I can't get the current version of 1.99.1. When I try to install version 1.99.1 this error comes up at the end and aborts the install. I had to change the version number to 1.99.1 on da notepad to be able to post the hijack log. I hope this isn't a problem.

Yes, it is a problem. I cannot properly clean your machine with that log.

1. Please DELETE/UNINSTALL your current version of HJT. I don't think you did an UNINSTALL because you were originallt able to use HJT. So the version works on your macgine.

2. Download and install HijackThis according to the directions provided HERE

3. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

4. If that doesn't work, we will try other methods of getting you thr right HJT

Well, it seems that every version of hijackthis except the version 1.99.1 works on my computer. I have deleted hijackthis from my computer. Everytime I try to download the version 1.99.1 it just says:

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

Then Mcafee says it has deleted a virus called W32/Generic.worm!p2p

Here are a couple of steps to try and run HijackThis. Follow them in order. If one step doesn't work, continue to the next step:

Step # 1

Rename HijackThis.exe to H.exe. Try a scan. If it works, post the log back here. If not, proceed to the next step.

Step # 2

Go to this link and download the 1.98 version of HijackThis.exe:

http:/www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/

Try a scan. If it works, post the log back here. If not, proceed to the next step.

Step # 3

Click here and download Itty Bitty Process Manager (IBProcMan.zip): http://www.merijn.or...s/ibprocman.zip .

Unzip it to it's own directory and try running it - it will provide a 'taskmanager' like process viewer in which you can stop running processes. Don't stop any yet, just list all that it has so I can check them and give advice. Post the list back here.

Steo one means to rename the file hijackthis.exe to anything you want like h.exe and then to try it. Some systems running McAfee in need of upgrades will not let the program run when it sees the name, so we change the name.

Try it please.

If it doesn't work, try using versiion 1.98

Well done. :tazz: Your problem is with McAfee. We will work with what we have but you must know that I am working partially blind. (Missing about 1/3 the info)

1. Please download LQfix.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-Click LQfix.exe and click Next > Next > Install.
  • Leave the default settings, if you change them, the fix will Fail!
  • Now make sure the "Launch LQfix" box is checked.
  • Click the Finish button, after clicking the Finish button the fix will start.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Your system will now reboot afterwards.
  • Please be patient after the reboot, there is a script running in the background that needs to complete.
2. Now do a scan with HiJackThis and post a new log by using Add Reply

Regards,

Trevuren
