Hi captainkangaroo :tazz:

You are running an old version of HiJackThis and are also running HiJackThis from a temporary folder or from within a zip archive. HiJackThis needs to run from a permanent folder in order to keep backups.

Please download version 1.99.1 from here and unzip it to a permanent folder such as C:\HJT. Run the program from that folder from now on.

STEPS For Creating Folder
1. Please go to My Computer, open your C:\ drive, Select: New >> Folder and name the folder HJT.

2. Download HijackThis to the new folder:

3. Double Click on 'HijackThis.zip' to extract and install HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

4. Close ALL windows except HJT

5. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

6. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

Please make sure you post the entire log including the top portion:

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

POST

Hi captainkangaroo :)

I presume you are referring to 'spam' e-mails, in other words e-mails that are unsolicited and uninvited. The most common reason for receiving spam is because you have entered your e-mail address onto a webpage, forum, blog or guestbook. Nasty people scan thru these to pick up other peoples e-mail addresses and then send you a whole load of junk. Some options you have are :
  • Setup another e-mail address and keep this one safe (do not make it public)
  • Setup rules in your e-mail system to reject e-mails from certain addresses
  • Use some sort of Spam filtering tool such as mailwasher or spambutcher
You may well be infected with malware so I would advise you follow my original instructions, update to the latest version of HijackThis, run it from a permanent folder, and post a fresh HijackThis log :tazz: .

Hi CaptainKangaroo :)

I do watch a bit of cricket... I'm from England so I watched most of the Ashes :tazz: .

A brief look at your log shows up several pieces of malware such as the Azesearch and some worms. Don't worry, we can get these fixed together - you just need to follow my instructions carefully and slowly. Let's get on with it...

Firstly, I notice you are still running HijackThis from a temporary folder. HijackThis creates backups and these are needed in case of any recovery issues. If you run it from a temp folder, these backups will be deleted.

Please create a directory on your C:\ drive called C:\HJT, download and unzip HijackThis into that directory. Run the program from that directory from now on.

STEPS For Creating Folder
1. Please go to My Computer, open your C:\ drive, Select: New >> Folder and name the folder HJT.

2. Download HijackThis to the new folder:

Hi captainkangaroo :)

Problems such as slow responses when typing and internet popus are all usually connected with malware on your computer. Let's get all the malware removed first, then you can see how your system is running. If you still have problems after that, we can discuss how to proceed :woot:.

P.S ARE YOU A HACKER BECAUSE MY FRIEND SAYS YOU TALK LIKE ONE BUT BE HONEST

:woot: :woot: Not sure whether to laugh or to be offended! I'm not sure how a hacker talks, but I can assure you I am not a hacker. I personally give up a lot of my free time to help people infected with malware. For example, I've spent several hours so far analysing your HijackThis log. If you do not want my help then please tell me, as I have many other people to help.

Anyway, let's get started...

You infected with Azesearch, TMKSoft and Adclick in addition to a Sdbot worm and an Adult content dialer.

Please print these instructions as you will not have access to the internet during certain parts of the fix. You should also save these instructions to Notepad as I will ask you to copy & paste from them during the fix.

Preparation

Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Download CleanUp and install it.

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:
  • Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
  • Double-click on the My Computer icon.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • After the new window appears select the View tab.
  • Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
  • Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
The Fix

Disable and Delete a Bad Service

Click Start >> Run, and type in Services.msc and Click OK!

Sroll that list and locate :

Distributed Link Tracking Client Helper

Right Click that entry and Select Properties. Click Stop. Go up and change the "Startup Type" to Disabled

Then click Ok all the way out.

Click Start >> Run and then copy & paste the command below into the Open box and Click OK!

sc delete Distributed Link Tracking Client Helper

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

Azesearch
TMKSoft <=== anything prefixed TMKSoft

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

Please remove these files using Windows Explorer (if present):

IEFilter1.dll
<==== you will have to search for this file to find it

Still in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

Select "Delete on Reboot".

Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\azentretien.dll
C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLO~1\SEARCH~1.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\phllq.dll
C:\WINDOWS\azesearch4.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iasada.dll

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot into Normal Mode.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan : ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log.

Finally, a quick question. You have some internet settings that relate to the following companies :

APNIC - Milton, Queensland, Australia
AAPT Ltd. - Richmond, Victoria, Australia

Do these mean anything to you (e.g. are they your ISP or cable company)?

Thanks :tazz:

Hi Captainkangaroo :).

Please do not use swear words or abusive language in any further posts. This site is used by a wide range of age ranges and your language is not family friendly. Thanks.

Why did you not run the ActiveScan? It is not a download, but a web-based scanner. It may ask you to install or download an ActiveX control, but you should say Yes and continue with the scan. This is important as it may detect things that we cannot see in your HijackThis log. Error Doctor 2006 is nothing to do with scanning for trojans or viruses - it is a registry repairer and personally I would recommend you don't use it.

Please follow these new instructions :

Please print these instructions and also save them to Notepad as I will ask you to copy & paste from them in safe mode, where you will not have access to the internet

1) You should already have the Killbox software downloaded. However, if you have deleted it please download it again from here.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) In normal mode, re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O21 - SSODL: IEFilter - {DB90660B-AD9A-420E-9587-DF7B656D0916} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEFilter.dll

Now close all windows and browsers other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

3) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

4) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

5) Select "Delete on Reboot".

6) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEFilter.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEFilter1.dll

7) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

8) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button.

Let the system reboot back into normal mode.

Then, please run this online virus scan : ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them in your next reply along with a new HiJackThis log.

Thanks :tazz:

Hi captainkangaroo :)

Ok, your log is a lot cleaner now, but still some work to do. I know its frustrating that your computer is still having problems, but lets get everything clean and then we can talk about that :woot:.

Please print these instructions and also save them to Notepad as I will ask you to copy & paste from them in safe mode, where you will not have access to the internet.

If you have any problems with the instructions or receive any errors, please include full details in your next post.

Preparation

Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
  • Install background guard
  • Install scan via context menu
You should already have the Killbox software downloaded. However, if you have deleted it please download it again from here. Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

The Fix

1) In normal mode, end a running process :
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Open Process Manager"
  • Find and Click on C:\WINDOWS\System32\aikdhaou.exe
  • Click on "Kill Process" button
  • Click Yes
2) Still in normal mode, re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [aikdhaou] C:\WINDOWS\System32\aikdhaou.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [aikdhaou] C:\WINDOWS\System32\aikdhaou.exe
O21 - SSODL: IEFilter - {AAA233ED-A61E-4D27-AA6A-F4D6AF733AEF} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEFilter.dll

(make sure you select both the '04' lines, there are 2 of them!)

Now close all windows and browsers other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

3) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

4) Just to be sure, I want you to re-do instructions 1) and 2) here in safe mode. End the running process if it exists and fix the entries if they exist. Don't worry if you can't find the process in the list, or if some (or all) of the entries are missing, just do what you can and then carry on below.

5) Still in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

6) Select "Delete on Reboot".

7) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AIKDHAOU.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\aikdhaou.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WinNB57.dll
C:\WINDOWS\hh.ico
C:\WINDOWS\internt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\switchagreement.txt
C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEFilter.dll

8) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

9) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button.

10) Let the system reboot back into normal mode.

11) Run Ewido :
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido security suite.

Please reply with a fresh HijackThis log (from normal mode, taken after you've completed the above instructions) and a copy of the report.txt file that you saved from the Ewido scan :tazz:.

Hi Captainkangaroo,

Nice to hear from you too :woot: . I don't have an MSN account because I don't chat online much and it's one of the easiest ways to get infected with viruses and spyware :)

Anyway, your latest log looks a lot better. Only one more thing to do :

Go to Start > Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the below service:

Service

(it might also say 'Unknown Owner' after this)

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, under the General tab click the Stop button, then click the drop-down box to change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.

Now go to Start > Run and type "sc delete Service" (without quotes) then hit Ok

Now run HijackThis, perform a scan and select the following entry :

O23 - Service: Service - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\Service.exe (file missing)

Then close all windows or browsers other than HijackThis and then click Fix Checked.

Now please reboot your computer, and post a fresh HijackThis log in your next reply.

Also let me know how your system is running... any more popups? any more freezing?

Thanks
:tazz:
