I can't get rid of spybot. Removed it in control panel using add/remove. Icon remained. When I click the spybot icon spybot opens. Does not show on add/remove list though. Properties of spybot icon show C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT\00088750.exe
Nothing show in the recycle bin. Doesn't show nprotect subdirectory
Can't see it in the recycle bin which is switched to normal.
Tried to delete 00088750.exe under c:\windows\prefetch but it just comes back
What do I do?

Ok lets try and disable teatimer then.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

What a mess.

I turned off the teatimer in spybot and ran everything again and it didn't work.

It looks like when Hijackthis is run and 4 boxes are checked and fix checked is clicked, the program does not follow through. I remember before it telling me "everything is fixed" or something like that. It just goes to a blank box. After that, pressing enter does not bring up the blue screen rather, I have to manually resstart. After that when hijackthis is run again the same O2, O2, O20,O20 entries still exist meaning they were not deleted.

I finally tried deleting everything in NortonProtected folder and that seemed to get rid of spybot. I then tried everything again with the same results.

Plus another problem crept up. Everytime I restart the computer the Windows firewall turns off.
