Let's try a little registry cleanup. Please download and run Ace Utilities Registry Tuneup.

http://www.acelogix.com/regtune.html

It's a trial version, but it will serve our needs.

Let me know how it goes.

Well it seemed to have fixed a few hundred errors and I re-ran it over and over until it couldnt fix any more errors. I think the computer starts up faster... but the error is still there!

My best guess is that your computer is having a conflict with two programs that run at startup. I think that it may be Nod32 and Zone Alarm, but let's disable some of the unnecessary programs first and see if that makes a difference.

Fix these lines with Hijackthis. These are all optional and the programs can still be started manually as you need to use them. This will just prevent them from running automatically when Windows boots up.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DSLAGENTEXE] dslagent.exe USB
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OdoPlus] C:\odo\OdoPlus.exe /autorun
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\bin\jusched.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Whatpulse] C:\Program Files\WhatPulse\WhatPulse.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MBM 5] "C:\Program Files\Motherboard Monitor 5\MBM5.EXE"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kX Mixer] C:\WINDOWS\system32\kxmixer.exe --startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [googletalk] "C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe" /autostart
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background

You can also restore any of these settings through Hijackthis backups.

Reboot your computer and let me know if you still get the error.

I disabled all the suggested items with no success. After that I decided I'd disable both nod32 and also zone alarm, but didn't have much luck with that either. I then looked at the services running and saw that vsmon (a zone alarm service) was still running so I disabled that too. But still the error came. I then found the nod32 service and disabled that. So far the error hasn't come up yet after 3 restarts (record!!). The error comes up at random occasions so I'm not 100% sure whether it is actually fixed or my computer has decided to be nice to me. I'll post again if it does though.

That makes sense. If you nail it down to Nod32 then maybe all you need to do is uninstall the program, reboot, and then reinstall it again.

Let me know if it starts popping up again. I'll be around. :tazz:

ah nuts. seems like i need help again :tazz:
once again the error returns. i haven't even had the chance to find a new anti-virus to replace nod. but from the looks of it, nothing's even wrong with it. back to the drawing-board...

Do you still have a program called Messenger Plus installed?

Tell me about the program called Talisman. Is it working properly?

Please fix these lines with Hijackthis.

Yes I know, but unless you need to be able to adjust your settings on a regular basis, it's not required to run automatically at startup. You can leave it if you are unsure. It's just another unnecessary startup item.

Let's take a more detailed look at a different log.

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE to download Silent Runner's.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will receive a prompt:
    • Do you want to skip supplementary searches?
      click NO
  • If you receive an error just click OK and double-click it to run it again - sometimes it won't run as it's supposed to the first time but will in subsequent runs.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
