I have read through a couple of postings and you seem to be able to help with my problem, so I am going to give this a shot!

I am connected to the internet through a cable modem so I am connected to the internet all the time. I have been struggling with adware off and on for a year. I purchased Webroot's Spy Sweeper a year ago and run this a few times per week. For the most part this has worked and kept me functioning ok. Recently, I have had a lot of problems with pop-ups my browser being hijacked/redirected and unable to get to the site I am trying to get to. I found that my subscription had expired and I had a hard time even getting through to renew it. I was finally able to do that and also purchased Webroot's PopUp Washer hoping this would cure my problems.

When I ran the updated sweep, the main culperate seemed to be something called Desktop Traffic. I was able to remove this with Spy Sweeper, but I'm still having some problems. I get a lot of pop ups (search.offeroptimizer.com, consumerincentivepromtions.com, xlimeofferoptimzer.com, etc.) If I run Spy Sweeper again right away, a lot of the same adware comes up again, including Desktop Traffic.

One other thing is that I have had Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus for the past year too. I do not like the Internet Security/Firewall, as it is hard for me to configure, constantly pops up warnings, and does not seem to help keep these pests away anyway. I usually end up just turning it off because it blocks me from doing what I want to do but doesn't do anything about the adware and hijacks. I have bought a new AntiVirus program eTrust EZ Antivirus 2005) but have not installed it yet because I have been busy fighting with these other problems. Can you tell me if and when I should try un-installing the Norton programs and installing the EZ Antivirus?

How can I prevent this stuff from coming back? Am I not totally cleaning it off my system? I am on the computer a lot, but am not a "techie", so a lot of the help info I see online is over my head. I feel pretty helpless and am hoping you can help me regain control of my computer again!

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem. About the first 10 folders under my favorites are junk like casino online, travel, printer cartridges, bingo, etc. but I can't delete t hem. I purchased the Web Root window washer and spysweep two days ago and ran it. Told it to keep Cyber peer to peer and get rid of all else , because it said Kazaa requires peer to peer. All the stuff still remains. Downloaded the Bazooka program and it only detected the Cyber peer to peer and nothing else. I also have two unwanted tool bars, one at the topa dn one at the bottom. Search the web 2 is the one at the top.

This is so incredibly frustrating.

Someone will be happy to help you get rid of C2Media/LOP :tazz:
and any other spyware you might have.

Thanks, Pieter. After I had posted this I read your "newbie instructions" and recommendation for this and have since done this with the hijack log. Sorry for any inconvenience.

there, either way continue with the following.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

Thank you so much for your help! I installed SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard, changed some of my IE settings, and went through all of the tests on Jason Leevine's website. I also downloaded his Cookie Jar program and moved all of the cookies I didn't recognize to the "banned" cookie jar.

I can't believe how quickly you were able to help me!
Thanks a million!
