note: My OS is windows 2000.

Last night I think I got the PSGuard and the desktophijack trojan... i googled up a few things this morning and followed some removal techniques of psguard.. the changed desktop with the "you are infected!" and the link to buying some programs has been removed... psguard has been removed from c:\program files. the little icon in the systray that says "you have been infected" is gone...

i normally have about:blank as my homepage, so i don't think there is anything wrong with my browser when i start it up.. it doesn't send me to weird pages...

i used the adaware SE, ewido, smitrem, and Cleanup programs to remove psguard.

so the infection seems to be gone.. however, when i rebooted my pc in normal mode, my desktop is gone. instead it is now a gray screen. I cannot change my desktop to my favorite wallpaper. i could right click> properties and see all the tabs including background, screensaver, appearance, etc. but when i try to set the background to something else and click "apply" or "ok", nothing happens. the desktop is still gray. When i hover my mouse over icons on the desktop, or anything in the system tray, and even selecting things on the taskbar, the desktop background turns white. Once my mouse is off the icon, the background becomes gray again.

I figured the PSGuard infection might not be gone yet. so i run ewido. Ewido surely picks up a few regkeys from HKLM>Software>PSGuard.com.

however, when i get ewido to fix it, it could not. it tells me that there is an Error during cleaning.

so then i try to Run>regedt32.exe to manually delete the keys.

I find HKLM>Software>PSGuard.com.

it branches out all the way to HKLM>Software>PSGuard.com>PSGuard>P.S.Guard>License.

i can open all the subfolders except the License subfolder. when i try to delete the License subfolder is says that this file/folder is inaccessible. (It is also grayed out on the regedt32.exe panel.)

I can't get rid of it and my desktop is messed up. any help would be appreciated! Here is my HJT log:
