I have something called winfixer but it doesnt have ads, or the winantispyware
that other users have been getting.

Most information is here including, panda search, ewido, hjt logs.
ewido finds nothing, panda search found some sort of adware program\file, but could not or did not disenfect when i ran the scan.

I have vundofix, clean up, spyware blaster, ad aware, norton
internet security 2005, aol spyware protection and spybot s & d installed.

aol spyware protection is the only program that has found it, aol spy pro does not give me the optoin to find out where the file\program is, the only options are, allow, block, block all, veiw details. view details tells you what the file can do.(it explains what adware and malware can do, nothing else).

there is no option when right clicking on any items either. there is no way to save or make a report.

*it is not called winfixer 2005 when aol finds it*

it comes up WinFixer

it is malware and the threat has elevated,

i done a search on the internet and a website referred to it is froistware.

hjt log....

Welcome kill_winfixer to Geeks to Go!

Let's see what's in there and clean it up.
  • Open HijackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on the Box that says "Uninstall Manager"
  • Click on the button "Save list"
  • Copy and past the List from notepad into your post
***

Please download, install, and update the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Run Ewido --- When you run it for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.
***

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

***

Next, run Ewido again.
  • Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
  • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.
  • When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.
***

Reboot back to normal mode.

***

Please do an online virus scan with Panda ActiveScan Here. You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Once you get to the Panda site, scroll down a bit and click on Scan your PC
  • A new window will appear; click on Check Now!
  • A new window will appear; fill in the boxes (Country, State, email addy)
  • Click on Scan Now! >
If you have never used ActiveScan before, you will be prompted to install an ActiveX control (asinst.cab) : click on Install. Panda will install the component, and then install the latest signature files.
  • From "Select a device to scan...", choose "My Computer"
  • Allow the scan to run. It'll take a while.
  • When complete, click on "See Report", and then on "Save report"; save it to a convenient location.
  • I will need you to post that report in your next reply; simply open the text file, then copy/paste the content here.
***

Post back to this topic with the uninstall list and both the Ewido log and the Panda results.

Move to Start > Settings > Control Panel
Double click Add/Remove Programs.
Within Add/Remove programs click the "Install/Uninstall" tab or click the "Change or Remove Programs" button.
Within this section you will see a listing of programs that are currently installed that support this feature. If the program I’m advising you to uninstall is listed within this list, highlight it and click the Add/Remove or uninstall option or button.

If the program is not listed within this list, let me know.

Reboot the computer.

I don't see winfixer around anywhere. If you have a shortcut on your desktop, please check it's properties by rightclicking to see where it thinks it's program is located.

Please don't be impatient, I get back as soon as I can.

Download CleanUp!.
If that doesn’t work, use this link.
Here is a tutorial which describes its usage:
http://www.bleepingc...tutorial93.html

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options"
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Scan local drives for temporary files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

Once it's done, press Close. Reboot the system. This will remove files that were in use during the scan.

Is AOL still picking it up after the reboot?

  • Allow the scan to run. It'll take a while.
  • When complete, click on "See Report", and then on "Save report"; save it to a convenient location.
  • I will need you to post that report in your next reply; simply open the text file, then copy/paste the content here.
Can you also tell me where AOL finds it (full path please).

aol does not give me the optoin to find out where it is, the only options are, allow, block, block all, veiw details. view details tells you what the file can do.(it explains what adware and malware can do, nothing else.
there is no option when right clicking on any items either

panda search:
Incident Status Location

Adware:adware/block-checker No disinfected Windows Registry

Why are you being so impatient?

I will help you as soon as I can. I do have a daytime job and a family and little as left also a bit of a social life....

Please disable SpybotSD’s protection, as it may hinder the removal of the infection. You can enable it after you're clean.

Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
Check yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
Click on Resident icon.
Uncheck Teatimer box and/or Uncheck Resident.
Close Spybot.

***

Also disable AOL antispy during the advise.

***

Download Blockrem from HERE
  • Unzip it to its own folder on your desktop.
  • Boot your computer to safe mode by rebooting and tapping the F8 button repeatedly until it brings up a boot menu.
From that menu, select Safe Mode by using the arrow keys to highlight it then pressing enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the Blockrem folder on your desktop and double-click blockrem.bat (this is the file with the gear icon) to run it.
  • Once it is running please follow the onscreen instructions.
  • Reboot and post a HijackThis log.
***

If after a reboot Block Checker is still found:

Follow these instructions to download and install Microsoft Antispyware.

Run a full scan and let it remove what it finds.

Let me know how things are.

Can you post me a HijackThis log made in normal mode please.

Did AntiSpyware remove what it found?

How is the computer running now?
