Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Download smitRem at http://noahdfear.gee.../click.php?id=1 and save the file to your desktop.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow the download and setup instructions at http://rstones12.gee...areSE_setup.htm. Otherwise, check for updates. Don't run it yet!

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. While in the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ and delete PSGuard.com

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O2 - BHO: HP Class - {FFFFFFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFA} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp8C01.tmp
O16 - DPF: {88D969C0-F192-11D4-A65F-0040963251E5} (XML DOM Document 4.0) - file://C:\WINDOWS\msxml4.cab

Run the smitRem.exe tool you downloaded earlier. Follow the prompts on the screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:

* Click on scanner.
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
* You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
* If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
* Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'.
* If you are unsure of any entry found, select none for now.
* When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
* Save the report to your desktop.

Close Ewido.

Next go to Control Panel->Display->Desktop (or Appearance)->Customize Desktop->Web-> Uncheck 'Security Info' if present.

Reboot back into Windows and go to http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.htm to do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked. Save the scan log.

Then post the Panda log here along with the logs for HijackThis, smitfiles.txt and Ewido.

Did you try deleting that PSGuard entry yourself? If not, we'll do so now. If it's still giving you trouble deleting, see if you can login to another user account (if you have more than one user on this computer) and try deleting it there (see below for more information on how to delete it).

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Copy the below files and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say Yes:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Online Security Center.url
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ot.ico

I forgot to mention that I still cannot get rid of the PSGuard entries, even following your instructions explicitly.

Boot into Safe Mode and run smitRem tool again. OK, delete these if found:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Online Security Center.url
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ot.ico
C:\Program Files\HijackThis\backups\backup-20051003-231412-308.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\shnlog.exe

For the PSGuard registry entry, do you have another user on this computer? If so, try logging in as them and try the fix for it again in their account.

When you are done, restart and run another new Panda scan. Post the log here along with the smitfiles.txt log.

For the random stutdown and restarts, see if it still occurs after doing the above. If so, let's take a look at the memory:

Download the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and install it on a blank floppy disk. Restart your computer and insert the floppy. If necessary, change your bios to boot from the floppy drive first. Let it load from the floppy and run the memory test for about 15 minutes. If no errors show up, you may exit the program and take out the floppy.

If any errors are found, you will need to replace the bad memory you have there.

Well, I do not have another account on my computer to try to delete the PSGuard with. I tried to download the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool but every floppy disk that I put in, I get a message that says the Disk in Drive A is not formatted. However it keeps telling me formating failed when I try and format the disks.
Anyway, here is my Panda log and Smitfiles:

Download Registrar Lite http://www.resplende...oad/reglite.exe and install it.

Copy and paste the follow text into the address bar and hit Go:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\

Then on the right pane, delete the PSGuard.com entry

Again, if you have any problems deleting this, right click on it and go to Permissions/Settings and try to get access to it.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ts.ico
C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-746137067-1580436667-1343024091-1004\Dc4.exe

If you get a PendingOperations message, just close it and restart your computer manually.

For the floppy disks, are you sure they are good? Are they write-protected by any chance? Make sure you double click on the exe file first. I think it will then copy the file over to the floppy afterwards.

#1 - I was still unable to remove the PSGuard entry. I get an Access Denied message, even when I try to get access through Permissions/Settings.

#2 - Ran Killbox

#3 - I have a problem with my floppy drive, I'm gonna have to get another one before I can use the Memory Diagnostics Tool.

Delete the smitRem file you have there and download it again. Boot into Safe Mode and run the smitRem tool again...get the smitfiles.txt log handy.

Restart and post that smitfiles.txt log here.

For the memory scan, you can burn that program on a CD if you wish. I think the Microsoft site has documentation on how to do this, so refer to the link I gave you earlier. That should work...

For some reason the memory diagnostic tool is not working. My pc does boot up from the disc but no diagnostic interface ever comes up. I am following the instructions from the Microsoft website with no luck. I am going to try the whole process over again and see what happens.
In the meantime, here is my Smitrem log:
