Screen Brightness

I recently replaced the HDD and motherboard in my laptop. And I've been making adjustments to my startup applications. Now when I adjust my screen brightness, the icon remains in the middle of my screen till I restart. Don't know if the hardware replacements had anything to do with it. Maybe a hotkey problem?
