Hello Everyone,

I hope there's someone out there who can help me out. I'm having trouble with capturing video from my digital video camera. I'm using USB 2.0 connection to transfer my video from my camera to my pc since I don't own FireWire.

First I tried Adobe Premiere Pro to capture my video but it didn't work. Next I tried Microsoft Movie Maker but that didn't work no neither. I read somewhere that these software won't be able to capture video from USB 2.0. So then I tried to capture the video with a capturing feature that comes with Nero 6. Finally my camera is indentified and I can see my movie playing on the Nero interface. I start the capturing and it seems to be going ok but then when I quit capturing I get a message "Cannot analyze captured video". Sigh. I really dunno what to do. Seems like I won't be able to get my video out at all. Does anyone have any suggestions or does anyone know what is going on with my Nero?

I plug in my camcorder and then it records it on to my pc.

A less expensive option that purchasing some new software may be just to add a PCI Firewire card to your computer. Quality Firewire cards with around 3 ports can be found for ~$10-$15 which is very reasonable. I like Newegg.com for all of my computer hardware purchases and here are a couple links to decent low-priced Firewire cards.

Here are a few options to try for freeware software capturers.

The one I would recommend trying first is a very useful program called VirtualDub. It allows you to capture from any device "seen" by windows. To try it out, download and unzip, run program, click "File" -> "Capture AVI ...". It will change the screen to capture mode, click on "Device" and see if your camcorder is listed, if it is, you are in luck! You can check it out at: http://www.virtualdub.org/

Yep, as gust0208 said, I think the best option is definitely FireWire... I have seen countless problems trying to capture with USB/USB2 - it simply isn't fast enough for the amount of data being sent.

Once you get a firewire card installed and Windows detects your camera, it really should be simple from there. I regularly use both Windows Movie Maker (comes free with Windows) and Adobe Premier Pro v1.5 to capture and they both work fine.
