Sorry to post yet another thread concerning this ugly piece of spyware, however, I have tried using numerous programs to try and eliminate this garbage from my computer and have come up with no results. I've read several other posts on here on ways to fix the problem, but I've been unable to utilize any of them, perhaps due to the fact my system may be different from theirs(?). Anyways, I ran the hijack this prg and here is my log from it. Can anyone help me? It's driving me nuts.

3. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

4. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

• Run HijackThis
  
• Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
  
• POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

1. Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
• This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
• After the files are extracted, please REBOOT your computer into Safe Mode.
  
  You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  
  
• Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
• You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.

• Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

3. Download and install CleanUp!

• Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
• Set the program up as follows:
• Click "Options..."
• Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
• Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

[*]Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
[*]It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

how imperative is it that I enter into safe mode? I tried to before and all I got was a black screen with the words "safe mode" in all four corners of the screen and that was all I got, it never went further than that in several attempts.

If we can't that way, the only other way would be through the Recovery Console.

Please try this and see what happens:

To use the System Configuration Utility to start Windows XP in Safe mode

• Close all open programs.
• Click Start > Run.
• In the Run dialog box, type msconfig and then click OK.
• In the System Configuration Utility, on the BOOT.INI tab, check /SAFEBOOT.
• Click OK.
• When you are asked to restart the computer, click Restart
• The computer restarts in Safe mode. (This can take several minutes.)

When you are finished working in Safe mode, use the System Configuration Utility to start Windows XP in normal mode.

To use the System Configuration Utility to start Windows XP in normal mode

• Finish what you need to do in Safe mode.
• In the section "To use the System Configuration Utility to start Windows XP" above, repeat steps 1-3 (inclusively).
• But in step 4, uncheck /SAFEBOOT.
• Close all programs, and restart the computer.

Finally back online... for a day or two there I didn't know how to get back... I got to safe mode again and again had the same results...a plain black screen...can I do this without using safe mode? I don't think mine works...

* Save it to your desktop.

* Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

* Select

• Delete on Reboot
• End Explorer Shell While Killing File
• Unregister dll Before Deleting (If not greyed out)

* Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

After clicking on OK at the reboot prompt, another window opened which said "PendingFileRename Operations Registry Data has been removed by External Process" and only had an "OK" button available as a choice. I rebooted anyway and here is the new HJT log I have just run off.
