It seems i'm not alone in this... help would be appreciated! I went through all of the steps, ran about a million programs, and cleaned out of a lot of stuff but this winfixer thing doesn't wanna go anywhere. Hi mycomputerhatesme and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. If you haven't logged in go to Geeks to Go and do so. Then proceed to item a.

If you already have logged in, go directly to item a.

Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window.
In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

4. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

Run HijackThis
Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Also note, one must be either logged in under the Administrator account or have administrator privileges to be able to successfully complete these procedures

1. Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please REBOOT your computer into Safe Mode.

You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.
it should look like this

At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below

- C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsro.dll
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\orstv.*
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.

2. The fix will run then HijackThis will open.

In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:
- O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsro.dll
  O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtsro - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsro.dll
After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

3. Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users

[*]Click OK
[*]Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
[*]It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.
[/list]4. Please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan
Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Okay, so I had a bit of a problem. When entering the second filepath into vundofix, I omitted the asterisk. Genius, I know. So what I actually entered was "C:\WINDOWS\system32\orstv." It accepted it and did whatever, but at the end it said that the second filepath was not found or something to that effect. Sorry... I did everything else. I couldn't get the computer to reboot after I finished running Hijackthis, however, so I had to manually shut it down (no Blue Screen of Death).

To remedy the little omission (You are allowed to make small mistakes, I am not :tazz:

We will revert back to the old manual finish to this problem.

1. We need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
Close the window with ok.

2. REBOOT into Safe Mode

3. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the C:\Windows\System32 Folder.

4. Locate, and DELETE All files named orstv. They will have various extensions, such as:

ini
ini1
ini2
bak1
bak2
and so on.

5. REBOOT your system

6. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.
Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode
- Restart the computer.
- As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
- Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
- Press Enter.
Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and DELETE them (if they are present):

C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe
Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE
Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now.

There's one more weird thing. Every time I reboot, Symantec pops up with this message:

It is the exact same virus, Backdoor.Graybird, each time, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me...

. Download the Killbox.

Unzip it to the desktop
Double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
Select "Delete on Reboot".
Place the following line (complete path) in C:\DOCUME~1\smyla\LOCALS~1\Temp\mc22.tmp in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox:
Put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot"
Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at theDelete on Reboot prompt.
Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually

Please tell me what happens.

No dice

I clicked yes when Killbox asked if i wanted to delete at reboot. the next prompt asked if i wanted to reboot 'now' and i clicked yes, then a message popped up saying, "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been removed by external process!" I clicked OK and then nothing happened - Killbox was still open and the filepath line was empty, so I restarted and was greeted with:

Sorry, turns out I'm low on space on my C:\ drive (this was news to me). Things started running very slowly and I ended up having to reboot in the middle of my scan, clean out a few things, and start all over. I'll defragment once all of this is over with. Anyway, Activescan didn't find any viruses, just 5 incidents of spyware. Here's the report:
