My computers been getting slow lately and I have a spyware infection called "lop" that I can't get rid of. Here's my hijackthis log. PLease help me eliminate any spyware I have.

You have a LOP infection that often comes together with Messenger Plus. To remove it we will try the simple way first.

1. Go to Add/Remove programs. Double click on "Messenger Plus!" (or click on Remove)

2. The "Messenger Plus! - Setup" is now displayed. Click on the Uninstall button. Note: options displayed on the first screen are not related to the sponsor program.

3. The sponsor screen is now displayed (if you don't see it, search for it in your Task Bar). To prove that someone is currently reading the screen, you have to type the code that is displayed. Once you enter the code, press Uninstall.

4. If you entered the code properly, the program will ask you to confirm that you want to uninstall. You must answer "Yes" to this question, else, you won't have another chance of uninstalling.

5. To complete the uninstallation, follow the instructions that are displayed (the first one is to close all your Internet Explorer windows, that's very important). When everything is complete, REBOOT your computer.

If I uninstall my messenger plus! wouldn't the LOP file come back once I reinstall it? I used MSN pretty much every day to keep in contact with my friends.
What is the sponsor screen also? If it doesn't show up, what would I type into my taskbar, and would I type it in my IE taskbar? I use firefox for everything due to IE sucking and getting too many popups. The only time IE comes into use is when I view someone's profile of MSN.

Messenger Plus is NOT MSN MESSENGER

It is an add-on. Once you have it uninstalled properly, you will still be able to use MSN Messenger. If you still want the Add-on, then you re-download it, once we are finished, and you make sure that you decline the advertising offer.

• Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

  O18 - Protocol: msnim - {828030A1-22C1-4009-854F-8E305202313F} - "C:\PROGRA~1\MSNMES~1\msgrapp.dll" (file missing)
  O20 - AppInit_DLLs: mad.dll
  
  
  
• Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.
  
  
• Reboot Your System in Safe Mode
  
  How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode
  
  
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
  • Press Enter.
• Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and DELETE them (if they are present):
  
  C:\WINDOWS\system32\msdosie.exe
  C:\PROGRAM FILES\MSNMES~1\msgrapp.dll
  mad.dll<==You will have to Search for this one
  
  
• Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE
  
  
• Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now.

I did step 1 and 2. But for step 3, I cannot find the file:
"C:\PROGRA~1\MSNMES~1\msgrapp.dll" (file missing)
in my log. Is this going to pose a big problem or can I just continue without that file?

EDIT: Nevermind. I figured out what your post was saying. Sorry about this.
