HELP!!!

i received a virus that was spread through aim. stupid me downloaded it and it sent the link to everybody on my buddy list. went through all the steps but computer is stil funky (i.e. my background is not mine and i keep getting pop-ups for toolbars and downloads) also, my computer keeps asking me if i want to take a windows xp tour. computer is also super slow. yes and i have a new weird toolbar on my browser (i'm not sure if it's the same one that keeps reinstalling itself when i restart my computer). please help!!!

Hello,

Please download LQfix.exe from one of the following locations:
  • http://www.downloads.subratam.org/LQfix.exe
    http://miekiemoes.geekstogo.com/tools/LQfix.exe

  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double-Click LQfix.exe and click Next > Next > Install.
  • Leave the default settings, if you change them, the fix will Fail!
  • You need an active Internet Connection, so make sure your you're not blocking any connection now.
  • Now make sure the "Launch LQfix" box is checked.
  • Click the Finish button, after clicking the Finish button the fix will start.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Your system will reboot afterwards.
  • Please be patient after the reboot, there is a script running in the background that needs to complete.
Then do a scan with HiJackThis and post a new log by using Add Reply

:woot: Thanks so much for replying!!

I followed some steps from another blog and it seemed to get a bit better (the weird toolbar is gone). but, Everytime I start my computer i get a box that reads "are you sure you want to run this software? name:windir32.exe Type:application From:C:\windows\system32
i also get a box that reads couldn't load library topsearch.dll
the last weird thing is whenever i start windows word it says "please wait while windows xp configures with frontpage, the feature you are trying to use is on a cd-rom that is unavailable." then it opens word, it never did that before this dumb virus....sorry too much talking and too little posting.. :tazz:

Hello, it is recommended you uninstall Kazaa and P2PNetworking through add/remove programs. While your in add/remove programs look for Downloadware and Delfin and any other programs you don't recognize and uninstall them too.

Download and use this AIMfix:
http://www.jayloden.com/aimfix.htm

Close all open programs, including AIM and doubleclick AIMfix.exe
This will delete related files and related entries in the registry.

Reboot afterwards.

After reboot....
  • You are running HijackThis from the Desktop; please create a new folder for it and move the program into the new folder
  • Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.
  • Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

cool! no more weird things pop up when i start my computer. i tried to uninstall freeprod toolbar and kazaa from the add and remove programs and it wouldn't let me. it still says "preparing to install, please wait while windows xp configures with frontpage" when i start word. don't know if that's part of a virus or not. how is my log now? THANK YOU so much for helping me through this.

  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Check off the 2 boxes next to the Box that says "Generate StartupList log"
  • Click on the button "Generate StartupList log"
  • Copy and past the StartupList from the notepad into your next post

Hello,
  • Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:
    O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE
    Close all browsers and windows, Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Reboot your computer, post back a fresh HijackThis log and let me know if your still getting the message with word.

Do you have the Word CD? You could uninstall then reinstall.
