I have started installing Adobe Acrobat 7 with Word XP. This version of Acrobat has a com add-in which stops the normal.dot from saving and prevents word from creating a new normal.dot.
If you "turn off" the COM addin by modifing the registry: go to -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins\PDFMaker.OfficeAddin and change the subkey called "LoadBehavior" from a value of 3 to 0

This will "fix" the normal.dot but will stop the acrobat menu and toolbars from loading.
Or you can "save all" each time you exit word to force a save to the normal.dot.

I need a fix/workaround that will allow me to keep the Acrobat toolbar and menu in word, and still have the normal.dot save as usual.
