I am running Win XP, SP2 with Windows Media Player 10 and IE 6.0. I have recently discovered that I cannot open WMP through IE. Clicking on a MPEG or WMV link used to go directly to WMP but now I have to download and go to WMP directly. The same thing occurs with Microsoft Outlook links in an email. When I click on a link, nothing happens except IE gives an error saying server not found and file cannot be opened! I have installed all of the current updates, have no spyware or viruses that I can find, all file associations are set correctly, and everything else works just fine. As a matter of fact, I can open WMP directly from Mozilla Firefox and from Opera.

I am attaching a HijackThis log file to see if there is anything in it that could indicate what the problem is.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
Ken Gash

It looks clean. Did you recently download something?

You can download the latest version of Hijack This and post another log. It picks up the latest threats. Look for it in my signature. :tazz:

Open OE, select Tools, Options and click the Security tab. Deselect the "Block images
and other external content in HTML e-mail" check box (it's under
Download Images). Click Apply and then OK.

If this doesn't fix your Outlook Express difficulty? Microsoft has a site entitled "Changes to Functionality in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2" and it covers all that ails OE:
Mico$oft ?Changes to Functionality in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2

Hope this helps...Ron
