hi, this is really bothering me. it started as just an annoyance, cuz it would put its search page instead of about:blank. then it wouldnt let me go to yahoo.... that made me mad. i did a hijackthis, got rid of a few things, and they came back. i asked someone who knows more bout this stuff than, me. did what he said, and still comes up. it is a real bugger. here is my current hijackthis log:

Welcome to GeeksToGo Forums. :tazz:

Your version of HijackThis is out of date. Download the newest version, HijackThis v1.99.0.
Be sure to replace your old HijackThis.exe with this new one by saving over it.

Place a checkmark next to these entries, close all browsers and windows, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking Fix Checked:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.dll/sp.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.dll/sp.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C61DD882-7B7D-4ECE-9D4D-68E13EC9BB6E} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pjbj.dll
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present

Reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files:
Click Start. Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab.

Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

Now you can restart the computer normally.
Please run HijackThis again and post a fresh log, just so I can make sure that all the malware was deleted according to plan. ;)

Let's try this these two things:
  • Download CWShredder.
  • Save CWShredder.exe to a convenient location.
  • Double-click on CWShredder.exe.
  • Click "Fix ->" and click "OK" at the prompt.
  • CWShredder will scan and clean your system of CWS files.
  • Click "Next->" and then "Exit".
  • Download DLLCompare.
  • Double-click on DllCompare.exe to run the program.
  • Click "Run Locate.com" and it will scan your system for files.
  • Once the scan has finished click "Compare" to compare your files to valid Windows files.
  • Once it has finished comparing click "Make a Log of what was found".
  • Click "Yes" at the View Log file? prompt to view the log.
  • Copy and paste the entire log into this topic.
  • If you accidentally close out of the log it is also saved as log.txt to where you saved DllCompare.exe.
  • Click "Exit" to exit DLLCompare.
When you are done post the DLLCompare log and a new HijackTHis log. Good luck! :tazz:

Download Registrar Lite from here:

http://www.resplende...oad/reglite.exe

Make sure you follow these instructions exactly.

You may want to print out these instructions or save them to your desktop because we will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet.

1. In Registrar Lite, on the left-hand side you should see a blue/purple Windows key (make sure you still have HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows pasted into your Address bar).
Click on it so that it becomes selected.

2. With the Windows key selected go to File ] Export. It should open up the My Documents dialogue box. Right-click in the white space and choose New ] Folder. Name this new folder BACKUPS. Then double-click on BACKUPS to enter it.

3. We are going to save two files.

Name the first one Winkey.reg and in the Save As Type box make sure Regedit4 standard reg files (*.reg) is selected. Then click Save.

Go to File ] Export again, make sure you're in the BACKUPS folder. Name this file Winkey.hiv and in the Save As Type box make sure Regedt32/WinApi hive files (*.hiv,*.dat,*.*) is selected. Then click Save.

4. Rename (Right-click ] Rename) the Windows key to Windows1.

5. Double-click the AppInit_DLLs value again, delete the data in the Value box, click OK.

6. Rename the Windows1 key back to Windows.

7. Make sure you can see hidden files and then reboot into Safe Mode.

Click OK.

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.
To get back to normal mode just restart the computer as you normally would.

8. In Safe Mode, find and delete C:\Windows\System32\sqlkfbm.dll and C:\WINDOWS\system32\mmdkbaa.dll.

9. Restart normally and post back here when you have completed the instructions.

  • Prepare CWShredder:
    • Download CWShredder v1.59.1.
    • Save it to your desktop.
    • Do not run it yet. We will run it later.
  • Run Symantec's BackDoor Removal Tool:
    • Download the Backdoor.Agent.B Removal Tool from Symantec.
    • Follow Symantec's instructions for how to run it.
    • Be sure to save the log file. I will need to see it later.
    • Restart your computer.
  • Run CWShredder. Be sure to click Fix as opposed to Scan Only. It should find some things and remove them.
  • Restart your computer once more.
  • Post a new HijackThis log and the log Symantec's tool gave you.
