Trojan, Freeprod, and mc-110-12-0000080

Hello. The owner of the computer I'm trying to clean clicked on a link in an AIM message from a friend and double-clicked on a new icon installed to her desktop as a result of the link. The AIM message was automatically sent to everyone on her buddy list and infected her computer with adware, malware, Trojan, etc.

I ran basically all the programs suggested by this site and a few things still remain, such as mc-110-12-0000080 on her desktop, Freeprod, Freeprod Toolbar, and several viral threats remain I think, including a Trojan. Other possible items that remain are: Catcher.dll, gui.exe, mc-110-12-0000080.exe, ProSiteFinder.dll, prositefinderh.exe, and services32.exe (I might have already cleaned these).

The computer is running smoothly for the most part, but the Freeprod Toolbar is annoying when browsing.

Thank you very much! By the way, I'm not sure if I unzipped hijackthis.exe correctly. All I did was save it to the folder suggested by this site.

Go to Add\Remove Programs and Remove any of these that may exist

Freeprod Toolbar
ProSiteFinder


Download WinPFind:

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!


Download Pocket KillBox from here:

Highlight the list below and press Ctrl+C to Copy!

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button!


Now scan the entire System with Ewido-> Clean all it finds and be sure to click the tab to Save a Report!


From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder!


Run MSCONFIG and enable everything in the startup area. To get to MSCONFIG, click on Start -> Run -> type in MSCONFIG -> click OK!

Under the "General" Tab
Make Sure Normal Startup is Checked!!

Click Apply>>Close>>Follow the Prompts to Restart!!

Restart Normal and have the PC Scanned here:
Panda Active Scan

You will need to be using Internet Explorer for the Scan to work!

Save the Report it generates


Post back with a fresh HijackThis log and the reports from WinPFind-> Ewido and Panda!

Hello. Everything went smoothly.

I removed Freeprod Toolbar from Add/Remove Programs and the window froze (I could still work in windows though). So I rebooted and after the reboot Freeprod Toolbar was gone from the list in Add/Remove Programs. I could not find ProSiteFinder in Add/Remove Programs.

The KillBox program ran as expected.

I deleted C:\Program Files\DNS, but C:\Program Files\ProSiteFinder and C:\Program Files\Freeprod Toolbar were both not there.

All files were deleted, as you told me, from HijackThis, except all of the files related to Freeprod were not in the HijackThis scan results.

The Ewido scan ran smoothly.

The WinPFind.exe scan ran smoothly.

The Panda Active Scan ran smoothly.

The computer itself seems to be running smoothly. I appreciate your help!

However, the mc-110-12-0000080 icon still appears on the desktop. Also, I forgot to mention that before I began doing the tasks you instructed me to do, a Windows System Error popped up from the system tray saying that a duplicate name exists on the network. BUT this was occuring from her dorm room DSL connection. It is now not occurring after following your instructions, but I am connected to a wireless network now at my home. Could you explain this briefly to me--is it talking about the windows network? or the internet? Why did this happen? Was it the things you told me to do that fixed it or the new internet connection? Keep in mind that I know much more than the average person about computers. Thank you!

Im pretty sure we both know what that means about the Network connection!

Most likely a bug trying to phone home!

So when we zapped the bug,no more phoning home :tazz:

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button!


Restart back in Normal Mode and Click Start-> Run-> Type in cmd and click OK!


At the Command Prompt screen-> Type in cd\ and hit Enter

Type in attrib -h -s c:\recycler and hit Enter

Type in del c:\recycler and hit Enter


Run one last Online Scan to be sure we didnt miss anything

InetGet and Media Gateway were not in the Add/Remove Programs list.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\services.exe and C:\Program Files\Common Files\system32.dll resulted in this: "This file does not seem to exist" from the Killbox program, but the other 5 were deleted successfully.

rem.reg was successfully entered into the registry.

The HijackThis deletes were done, except the following was not there:
04 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Windows DLL Services configuration] windir32.exe

The commands were completed in the Command Prompt screen.

The virus scan did not yield any results!

Why would turning off system restore be to my advantage?

SpywareBlaster was downloaded and updated correctly.

The new HOSTS file was downloaded correctly.

The computer is running well, but she complained about her internet running slowly. I'm not sure what this is from, but it is running a little slow. Do you know of any free system optimizers? I've got one back home 1 1/2 hours away, but not here.

Disabling System Restore and Restarting the PC will flush out all old restore points and create a nice new clean one!

We can run through a list of ipconfig commands if you like and see if that helps the connection?
