please help none of my desktop start up bar wont come up or my desktop icons but it will only let me go on ctrl/alt/del thats how i got on the internet but it wont let me bring up my msn or anything else please please help

Hi loopdog! Welcome to G2G.

What I suggest you do is a Repair Installatin of Windows. Don't worry all your programs will still work and you won't lose any settings or files. All this does is replace the operating system files.

Type ctrl + alt + del

do you get task manager, if so, click file, new task, type explorer.exe then press enter, you should get the desktop icons and taskbar, if so, run the PC as usual, the desktop should appear when you shut down / start or reboot

Are you doing as Keith suggested - Clicking on "New Task" and then pysically typing explorer.exe into the dialogue box??

Branded system or custom built system?? How did you install XP to begin with??

yes i have dun that on the task bar and when we got it, xp was already on the computer and its a packard bell

Your options are limited without an XP CD as you need to replace files at some point

but i dont understand it was perfect i shut it down normally then when started it up it would bring up anything apart from my display picture iv restarted it time and time again but still no results

it wont let me restore my computer it comes up but with a plank screen
