When I boot my computer up I get the following message

-------

WINDOWS COULD NOT START BECAUSE THE FOLLOWING FILE IS MISSING OR CORRUPT:

WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

-------
I tried to fix it using the recovery console, but...

When I try to run the recovery console (through the installation disk), I get the blue screen (which I thought had been retired) and error 0xC2 or BAD_POOL_CALLER with parameters 0x00000043, 0xC1F35000, 0, and 0

I see no way out :tazz:

Welcome to Geeks To Go! :tazz:
Read this for the STOP error message description.
No, STOP errors weren't retired, they are just not used by default. XP restarts when it encounters a system error now, but that option can (and should IMO) be turned off.

Can you do a Repair install. See the link in my signature for instructions.

I already read the STOP description, and none of them apply to me...

When I press ENTER to go to "Setup Windows" it gives me the same 0xC2 error...
I can't do anything with the CD...do you think it's scratched?

So, no i cannot do a repair install...

Oh, I just remembered, when the installation disk was laoding, it gave me a small error, I'll post it in Friday, unless I manage to get on today...

Try the memory test in my signature to rule out your memory.

Please post back when you can. If the memory isn't the cause, try removing some unecessary hardware. Did you recently install any new hardware or software?

OK. When do you get the BSOD while trying the recovery console?

Try removing some unnecessary hardware.

Is that a repair then? I thought you said it was after the Recovery Console? Or, is it after both of them? I meant internal hardware. If you didn't change any, it is unlikely that it is causing this (although it is slightly possible).

You might want to try it. I'm afraid that a repair may render your computer unbootable. It depends on what is causing the BSOD. Do you have an extra hard drive you could use to backup your important files?

Is there any way to fix the corrupt file without the Win. Install CD?

The BSOD only happens when I try and use the CD...could it be scratched?

EDIT: I have Windows Professional, if that helps.

Possibly...I'm not sure how to do it otherwise, maybe someone else knows.

Try a different CD drive if you have one. You may just want to try the repair. Do you have another hard drive to copy your files to?
