Win "search" kills Explorer

when i start a search (from the start bar of form within win explorer) i get an error window
"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience."

from within the Task Manager both the searsh results and the explorer apps show as Not Responding and need to be killed.


how did i get to this !
can you Help ?
what info do you require from me ??

Try putting your xp cd in the drive. Click "Start", "run", type sfc /scannow make sure to put a space between sfc and /scannow. This will check and fix/replace system files. This may work, if not then a "repair" install would be recommended. Check it out here:
