My browser is getting hijacked and redirected every couple sites I try to go to. I was previously using IE but have recently switched to Firefox and still the same issue. I have icons appearing on my desktop randomly. I was writing this post a couple minutes earlier and my windows desktop theme changed completely and then my PC just shut off by itself. I have done every thing recommended as far as preliminary scans before submitting a post. I've used Cleanup, Ad-aware SE, CWShredder, Spybot S&D, Ewido Security Suite, Trend Housecall, TrojanHunter and even Xoftspy which isn't suggested. All programs were updated and had the latest definitions. I currently have Windows Service Pack 2.

• Download WinPFind
  • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
  • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
  • Dont do anything with it yet!
• Download Trackgoo
  • Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop

Reboot into Safe Mode

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe

• Click "Start Scan"
• It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
• Once the Scan is Complete
• Go to the WinPFind folder
• Locate WinPFind.txt
• Place those results in the next post!

Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up. Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind!

• As you Paste each entry into Killbox, place a check beside any of these Selections available:
  • "Delete on Reboot"
  • "Unregister .dll before Deleting"
• Click the Red Circle with the White X in the Middle to Delete!
  
  
• REBOOT in Safe Mode and Run those files through Killbox once more to be sure nothing survived.
  
  *This time place a checkmark by any of these selections available:
  • "Standard File Kill"
  • "End Explorer Shell while Killing File"
  • "Unregister .dll before Deleting"

4. Now Locate and DoubleClick KillQoo.reg-> Allow it to merge into the Registry!

5. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

6. REBOOT back in Normal Mode

You have the latest version of VX2.

1. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

2. Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.

• Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts.
• Open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
• Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter.
• This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Note: If you receive, while running option #1, an error similar to:

''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...

• Then please use option 5 or,
• The web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition.

I ran the l2mfix.exe and used option 1. I received the error, ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."..., So I used option 5 as stated and Downloaded the appropriate files into the designated directory. I then retried option 1 and here is the log:

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

• From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat.
• Select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter.
• Press any key to reboot your computer.
• After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal).
• L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Note: If after the reboot the desktop icons dont dissappear or the log does not pop up then in the l2mfix folder double click the second.bat file to continue with the fix

When I ran the Fix, "option 2" in the l2mfix folder, the PC rebooted. But then a dialog box popped up and stated the following:

Contents: cannot export backregs\89DAA1F8-E110-499A-8CDC-92B257F87B62.reg.: Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error.

But I think it did still run the fix. Here is the log produced:
