[Johnsondl]

I'm new to Geeks to go, but have read many of the postings and followed the advice of them with some success in the past. Now I have an infection that I have been not able to beat without help. I'm experiencing frequent popups and redirects from the pages I navigate to. I've tried switching browsers from the original mozilla to explorer to mozilla Firefox. The popups occur with all. They also start the default browser even if it's not open. The most frequest ppopups are Winfixer, partypoker and searc-h. I am running windows XP and Norton Antivirus. I also run adaware, ewido, spybot, cwshreder and bps spyware remover. I did go through the entire "you must read this before posting" instructions and saw that BPS Spyware remover is identified as a pirate software, but I was reluctant to remove it as it seems to have helped me in some situations in the past.

• Now go to Format and uncheck WordWrap.
• Close Notepad.

4. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

5. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

• Run HijackThis
  
• Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
  
• POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

You have the latest version of VX2.

1. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

2. Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.

• Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts.
• Open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
• Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter.
• This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Note: If you receive, while running option #1, an error similar to:

''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...

• Then please use option 5 or,
• The web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition.

Do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

OK. I did get the "autoexec.." error you mentioned, option 5 did not work, but I sucessfully resolved the error using the link provided in the l2mfix folder.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

• From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat.
• Select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter.
• Press any key to reboot your computer.
• After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal).
• L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Note: If after the reboot the desktop icons dont dissappear or the log does not pop up then in the l2mfix folder double click the second.bat file to continue with the fix

We are currently experiencing difficulries deleting the 020 entry in your HJT log. If this has no effect, we will go back to the l2MFix solution.

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note:In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.

• Save it to your desktop.
  
• Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
  
• Select
  • "Delete on Reboot".
  • "End Explorer Shell While Killing File"
• Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
  
  C:\WINDOWS\system32\o8pq0i75e8.dll
  
  
  
• Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
  
• Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

No luck it seems. I ran the latest post and killbox ended without rebooting with an error that read :Pending Filename Operations Database has been removed by an external process! I forced a reboot from there and here is the HJT log:

Please Download the following tool to assist us in removing this infection!

• Download WinPFind
  • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
  • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
  • Dont do anything with it yet!
• Reboot into Safe Mode
  
  Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.
  
  
• Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
• Reboot back to Normal Mode!
