Hi BrendanG and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. If you haven't logged in go to Geeks to Go and do so. Then proceed to item a.

If you already have logged in, go directly to item a.
  • Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window.
  • In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
  • If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there
2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

4. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!
  • Run HijackThis
  • Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
  • POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren

  • After the files are extracted, please REBOOT your computer into Safe Mode.

You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.

  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.
    it should look like this

    VundoFix V2.1 by Atri
By pressing enter you agree that you are using this at your own risk

I have downloaded VundoFix.exe to my desktop and rebooted in safe mode, selecting administrator access. Once admin is selected, my screen turns black, with 'Safe Mode' in each corner and MS details across the top, and it doesn't progress any further. There is no hourglass to suggest that the PC is active, and I am unable to access my desktop (or any other areas of my PC). :tazz:

What options are still available to you on that black screen?

Hi Trevuren. There are no options available. It is simply a black screen with 'Safe Mode' in each corner and Microsoft's copyright details in the centre at the top of the screen.

1. Become familiar with the content of the following article by Microsoft RECOVERY CONSOLE

2. When you feel comfortable with the process, get back to me and we will try it that way.

1. Copy and paste the contents of the code box to Notepad.
  • Save as go.txt
  • Save the file in C:\windows
attrib -r C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqo.dll
attrib -h C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqo.dll
del C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqo.dll

Note: If the batch file does not appear to work, navigate to the c:\Windows\system32 folder and DELETE the file that way

2. REBOOT the computer using the XP CD.

You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to accessing the BIOS and changing the boot order.

3. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below:

(This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer):
  • To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
  • To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
  • To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
4. You want to Press R to enter the recovery console.

5. Once the Recovery Console has loaded and you are at a C:> prompt you are going to DELETE the file.

6. Type the following and press enter:

Batch C:\windows\go.txt (Note the space between Batch and the C)

If the batch works, you will get no error messages and you will be back at a C:> prompt. If you get an error message you need to post back with the message.

7. Remove the windows xp disk.

8. Type Exit to restart.

9. After the restart go back into HJT and place a checkmark beside the following items:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vturr.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: vturr - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vturr.dll

With all windows closed except for HJT, ckick Fix checked and EXIT the program

10. Reboot and post a fresh log.
