Hello,

When I started my computer, I am getting a black screen with this message.

A problem with the hard drive has been detected. Consult the Troubleshooting section of your user's manual.

Pri Master Hard Disk:S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, Backup and Replace

Press the Enter key to continue

I have checked my manual and can't find anything. PLEASE HELP!

Is my hard drive fried?

This system has been acting weird and I beleive it may have a virus and a ton of spyware on it but when I try to run the programs I got from your site, it freezes up about 3/4 way through them.

Thank you for your help.

The best way to check the hardrive is to go to the hardrive manufacturers website on another pc and download their diagnostic utilities. Copy them to either a floppy or a cd and run them on the problem pc.

If you have another pc you could slave the bad drive off of the good drive and run antivirus and spyware utilities on it. The following are free and should do the job: Avast, Adaware and Spybot.
