Ok so that computer i built i got it and im trying to load windows xp on the harddrive... i got to the setup stage and formated the harddrive and then it said windows xp will restart in 15 seconds... press any key to continue... so i waited for it to start up and when it came up it gave me this screen

can you please help me install windows xp professinal on this computer... the list of parts are on another forum topic called "computer build" it is an amd board so you can look at it if you need information on the BIOS... please help

ok i opened up the Download - Pre-Compiled Memtest86 v3.1a installable from Windows and DOS file and have it on my computer but i have no idea what to do now, do i have to put it on a floppy disk and then put it in the new computer or do something else?

Create a bootable floppy, and copy the memtest files to it. Boot your computer with the floppy.

ok i got myself that disk and will test it in the computer soon

if the test comes out fail do i have to contact tigerdirect and tell them to send me some new ram or is there a way to fix it

if the test comes out as pass then what do i do?

If your memory fails you'll need to get a replacement from Tiger Direct. Also, if you have more than one stick, you could try removing one and try one at a time.

unfourtunalty its only 1 stick of ram... i tried the disk in the new computer and it said system disk error and wouldnt run... please i really need some help what should my next step is... this stupid computer is outsmarting me! (yes i know its not hard to do) but its fustrating... what can i do next! please HELP!!

I downloaded the latest memtest86 and learned it doesn't require a bootable floppy anymore. Here's the current instructions:

Installation
===============
Memtest86 is a stand alone program that cannot be executed under windows and must
be loaded from a floppy disk.

To install Memtest86:
- Extract the files from the zip archive
- Open the directory where the files were extracted and click on "install.bat".
- The install program will prompt you for the floppy drive and also prompt you to
insert a blank floppy.
- To run Memtest86 leave the floppy in the drive and reboot.

NOTE: After the boot floppy has been created you will not be able to read the floppy
from windows. This is normal.

i opened up that install file but all it does it opens up a command prompt thing for like 1 sec. and then just goes away... also the rawwrite program does not work from that file... in the top posts i did create a bootable floppy disk... i selected the 6th choice for downloading the memtest86 thing for windows or somethign and it looked like the one you were talkin about... ahh god the luck is not goin in my favor... is there anyway you could give me a direct link to everythign i need to do or does something in here not look right that im doing?

yea thats the one i had before, the one im having trouble with, like when i click the install icon, a command prompt opens up and then it goes away in like 1 sec. and then when i click on the rawrite, it gives me an error... what should i do with that... also i have one more question for another solution if you cant find a solution to that, if i were to get every stick of ram from old computers and some other computers and put them in the motherboard slot till i get around 512, and then try to load xp would that work? if it did and i get xp and all the modem, fax, could i then get new memory and change it even after the xp is loaded?
