Hi JRTzBaYbEe and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

2. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!
  • Run HijackThis
  • Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
  • POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

1. . Download the following program HOSTER.
  • Unzip and run the program.
  • You will be presented with a screen where you will find the following option:Restore Microsoft Original Hosts.
  • Press it and Close the program.
  • Reboot your system.

2. You have the latest version of VX2.

1. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

2. Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
  • Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts.
  • Open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
  • Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter.
  • This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.
  • Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Note: If you receive, while running option #1, an error similar to:

''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...
  • Then please use option 5 or,
  • The web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition.
Do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.
  • From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat.
  • Select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter.
  • Press any key to reboot your computer.
  • After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal).
  • L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.
  • Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Note: If after the reboot the desktop icons dont dissappear or the log does not pop up then in the l2mfix folder double click the second.bat file to continue with the fix

Hi :)

I forgot to mention in my earlier posts that I had obtained this virus from AOL Instant Messanger. I mistakenly clicked on a link that I had received from a friend, which in turn sent the same link to everyone else on my buddy list. I was looking through other members' threads, and the same thing seemed to happen to someone else. He/she was advised to run AIM Fix, which I hadn't done yet. Now, my "yupsearch" toolbar is gone; however, even after I uninstalled and then reinstalled AIM, it still won't run. Neither will my Dell Jukebox (which is what I use to play all my music), Microsoft Word Perfect, and a few other programs. I just wanted to give you an update in case any of this information is relevant to removing this virus. Thank you so much for your time! :)

I'm having a small problem with lwmfix... I tried to select "Run Fix" by pressing 2 and enter, but it simply says "Original Registry Permissions." Then, nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong?

A. Abort that procedure then.

B.

1. Please download LQfix.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-Click LQfix.exe and click Next > Next > Install.
  • Leave the default settings, if you change them, the fix will Fail!
  • Now make sure the "Launch LQfix" box is checked.
  • Click the Finish button, after clicking the Finish button the fix will start.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Your system will now reboot afterwards.
  • Please be patient after the reboot, there is a script running in the background that needs to complete.
2. Now do a scan with HiJackThis and post a new log by using Add Reply

After you have finished with Post # 10, please provide me with a full startup List taken while in Safe Mode. To do this:

1. Reboot your machine into Safe Mode.

2. Once in Safe Mode, open HJT.

3. Go MiscTools and beside "General Startup List, make sure both boxes are checked off.

4. Then press on Generate Startup List log.

5. Please post the resulting log into this thraed.

I'm sorry, but I'm not exactly sure how to reboot my computer into safe mode. I think you're supposed to press a certain F-something button repeatedly, but I figured I'd ask first before I mess my computer up even more :tazz: haha Thanks for your help.
