windows not shutting down

hi, just bought a new pc with windows xp a few weeks back, when i go to shutdown it doesn't work, so i've been having to just keep my finger on the power button for a few seconds for it to turn off, also restart doesnt work either

ta in advance for help

If you have an NVIDIA Graphics card then the service they install on the system is well known to stop Windows shutting down.

i havnt got a graphics card, cept the one tht comes with the pc, i dunno how to check make tho

i think its summit to do with norton as i disabled it and the pc shutdown with no probs, ill be unistalling norton soon

Just make sure you have some antivirus protection. Try AVG or Avast! Home Edition if you want a free alternative.
