Before I post this I want you to know that I have the following programs and have used the following programs before posting...

Clean Up!
Adaware SE Professional 1.6 Build + AddOns
SpyBot Search and Destroy
Spyware Blaster

All of them have been updated

Recently I have been getting these popups and in the address bar of these popups it has WinFixer in it.. So I ran all of the programs but to no avail.. So I downloaded HijackThis and came here in hopes of help.. I have copied my HJT log and here it is:

Hello JGMaverick. Welcome to Geeks to Go! My name is Steamhead and I will be helping you out today! You have the Vundu trojan on your computer, and we will have to remove it. Please follow these instructions very carefully:

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.13 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.

  • Next you will see:

Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddcyv.dll

  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.

  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\vycdd.*
  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00DBDAC8-4691-4797-8E6A-7C6AB89BC441} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfd.dll
    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddcyv.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddcyv - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddcyv.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkhfd - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\jkhfd.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
  • Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry! If you do not receive the "Blue Screen of Death", please manually reboot the computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Hello JGMaverick Welcome back!!
The main infection, Vundu, is gone, however, there is still an infection here, and if we don't get it now, it may re-install Vundu (it probably is what installed it in the first place.) Let's get started!
You may want to PRINT this out , so you will have it with you during the entire process.

STEP 1:

Open HijackThis! and scan your computer. Place a check next to the following:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00DBDAC8-4691-4797-8E6A-7C6AB89BC441} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfd.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkhfd - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\jkhfd.dll

Close ALL windows and browsers, execpt for HJT, and click on "Fix Checked"

Great!

STEP 2:

We need to reboot your computer in Safe Mode once again. Do this by tapping F8 as your computer is booting up, then selecting "Safe Mode" from the menu.

Open Explorer ( right click on Start then "explore" )
Find and delete the following file in RED:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\jkhfd.dll

Now reboot your computer normally.

Excellent!

STEP 3:

Post a FRESH HijackThis! log and tell me the results! How is your computer running?

Well when I did the hijack this.. jkhfd.dll was not found.. but a new one was.. vtsqq.dll and I am still getting the winfixer popups.. so instead of deleting the jkhfd.dll, I went ahead and deleted the vtsqq.dll with hijack this.. I ten restarted into safe mode and clicked explore and went into system32 to find vtsqq.dll.. but when I looked for it.. it couldn't be found, but every time I ran hijackthis.. it still found it.. so I went ahead and enabled the view of hidden files.. and I still could not find it.... so I gave up.. restarted.. and here is my hijack this log:

Hello JGMaverick and welcome back!
Vundo was reinstalled on your computer. We will have to run the earler fix once again. Last time, I promise!

    VundoFix V2.14 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.

  • Next you will see:

Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqq.dll

  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.

  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\qqstv.*
  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {8DBF02DA-4360-4A7E-BEA1-347B87816327} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqq.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtsqq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqq.dll

Hello JGMaverick and welcome back! We still have one tiny step left to do.
Let's get started!

Open HijackThis! and scan your computer. Place a check next to the following entries:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {8DBF02DA-4360-4A7E-BEA1-347B87816327} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqq.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtsqq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqq.dll (file missing)

Now close ALL windows and browsers, execpt for HJT, and click on "Fix Checked"

Now, once again, reboot into Safe Mode. (tap F8 while your computer is booting up).
Open Explorer and delete the following files in RED:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqq.dll

now reboot your computer normally, and post a fresh HJT log!!

Beautiful.. I think it is resolved.. I ran the hijack.. deleted those files.. thenI rebooted into safe mode and looked for that file.. it couldn't be found.. so I restarted.. ran hijack this.. and here is my log.. no trace of vtsqq.dll or jhkfd.dll.. awesome.. oh and by the way.. how can I protect my comp from this again.. I have Adaware SE Pro, Spybot, and spyware blaster, all of which are constantly updated.. so if they didn't pick up on vundo, then how can I protect myself against it?

Hello JGMaverick and welcome back! Yes, you are clean :tazz: Good job!
I recommend reading this prevention speech. I think it will tell you all you need to know.

Excellent your all clean!

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
