Hi:

I am having issues with my PC. Its peformance has become rather slow in recent days. I attempted to run the suggested scans, but get errors on each when trying to update the definitions (error in connection is typical). I also have been getting pop-ups off an on. Opening programs is greatly delayed, up to a few mins for the IE broswer window to display after clicking on the icon, opening pages also delayed, start up is also taking longer.

Any suggestions would be great!!

I can not remove it as it says the file is in use. I tried removing it in safe mode and with symatec's fixvundo script, but it was not corrected.

We need to get rid of the Vundu trojan on your computer.

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
• This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
• After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
• Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
• You will first be presented with a warning.
  It should look like this

• At this point press enter one time.
  
  
  
• Next you will see:

• Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Thanks! I no longer get the Norton virus alert pop-up. But the PC still seems slow (delay in opening webpages in IE, longer to boot up, and desktop displays generic windows icons and slowly refreshes during initial login in. Is there anything else I need to correct to retsore this?

Also, I was unable to find the O2- BHO:MSEvent Object - {6DD0BC06.......) line to check in the HijackThis file. I found and selected the other.

Hello jolces! Welcome back! Good News! Your log show no malware in it, and as for your slow start-up problem, it may not be totally associated with malware, however I can point out to you some unneeded things that start-up with your computer, and you can decide if you would like to keep them or not. Note that you are NOT removing these programs, just keeping them from starting up automaticlly.

Open Hijack This! and scan your computer. Place a check next to the following entries you want to remove.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [AIM] C:\Program Files\AIM\aim.exe -cnetwait.odl - This will start AIM at start-up if you are connected to the internet. Removing this entry will mean you will have to start up AIM manually.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background - This is a Windows Messenger utility. If you don't use Windows Messenger, this can be annoying.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe - automatic updates for ViewPoint products such as ViewPoint Media Player (as bundled with AOL, AOL Instant Messenger, Compuserve, etc). Can be run manually via Start -> Settings -> Control Panel by enabling auto-updates temporarily, re-booting and then disabling again.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE - This is a reminder to register Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! cards.

Deleteing these may speed up your boot process, however if your computer is still lagging, it probably has nothing to do with malware.

• Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  
• AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  
• SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  
• SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  
• IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  
• CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  
• Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  
• Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  
• Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
  
• Weather Watcher - Free taskbar weather program that is free, malware free, and resource light.
