Welcome back Grandpa.

The HijackThis log looks clean to me.

I don't see an Antivirus program. I do advise you to use one.
Here's a few free ones you can use.

Hi

Thanks for that.

I wonder can you help, or should I post eleswhere the following.

I have installed Avast, but can't get it to launch at Startup in the system tray ( nor can I get Spybot to load at startup, I have tried to enable teatimer, but it keeps "disenabling" itself.)

Its as though the system tray is" locked".

I have posted a log which may help.

You can enable Spybot teatimer like this:

Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
Check yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
Click on Resident icon.
Check Teatimer box.
Close Spybot.

There's no need to run Spybot on startup. You can run it like once a week or so to check.

***

Is Spybot or AdWatch warning you about some Registry Changes being made?

***

Doubleclick on the avast icon
A memorytest will start. After that memory test a screen will appear
close this window and right click the icon in the system tray
a pulldown menu will appear
Click Program Settings and make sure the option show avast! Tray icon is checked and click ok

Let me know how things are now.

Hi g2i2r4

Again many thanks for your help.

I did as suggested for Spybot but for some reason it just doesnt want to do what it is supposed to do. I was under the impression that you needed to have evrything running in the sys tray to be protected., however I wont bother anymore with Spybot I'll just scan even5/7 dyas.

Avast, again did as instructed, but for some reason it doesnt want to go to the Sys tray. Its almost as if the sys tray is "locked" somehow.
Im also running, ZASS, Ewido, Ad aware, spyblaster,
OS XPhome sp2

many many thanks

AdWatch is protecting you. Is it prompting you to a change, do you allow the change?
