I am having trouble selecting the items to check. If you take them as 12 items...#5-10 are the only exact matches. #3,4 & 12 are close but I have letters where you have ...
Also, #1,2 & 11 I don't see at all. What should I do? Here is the last log from the HJT scan:

1. Check off the exact matches.

2. Don't wory about the ones you can't see

3. Reboot and post a fresh log. We will make any modifications, if required, after I see your log.

you sent me a Silent Runners Log instead of a HJT log as requested. That's OK though because I need you to log in as under the user" profile and run the LOP findjobs.bat again:

First we will try and find some of the elements of the infection. If they are present, I will provide the necessary directions to remove them in the next post.
  • Open notepad
  • Copy and paste the text contained in the Code box into the new Notepad file:

    dir %Windir%\tasks /a h > files.txt
    notepad files.txt
  • Save this as findjobs.bat , choose to save it as *all files and place it on your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on op findjobs.bat and post the content of the textfile you get in your next reply.

Now to remove these elements of LOP
  • Open Notepad and copy and paste the content of the code box in it:

    C:\
    cd C:\Windows\Tasks
    attrib -r -s -h A320C6FA917B4572.job
    del A320C6FA917B4572.job
    attrib -r -s -h A95526549092DB4C.job
    del A95526549092DB4C.job
    attrib -r -s -h AAFC6DBE935BE302.job
    del AAFC6DBE935BE302.job
    attrib -r -s -h ADE3031E9304BB16.job
    del ADE3031E9304BB16.job
  • Save this Notepad file as remjobs.bat , choose to save as *all files
and place it on your desktop.

  • Doubleclick on remjobs.bat. A doswindow will open and close again, this is normal.

  • Afterwards, doubleclick on findjobs.bat again and paste the content of the textfile you get into your next reply with a fresh HijackThis log.
In addition, using the same settings as described in a previous post about using Killbox (Post #15), replace the files to kill by the following:

c:\docume~1\owner\applic~1\seekdo~1

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
  • First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:
    • Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
    • Choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
    • Uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
    • Close the window with ok
  • Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Roamamen] C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\APPLIC~1\SEEKDO~1\Multi Poke Bolt.exe

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

  • Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
    • Press Enter.
  • Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and DELETE them (if they are present):

    C:\DOCUMENTS and SETTINGS\Owner\APPLICATION DATA\SEEKDO~1<==Folder

  • Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

  • Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now.
Regards,

When I looked for the SEEKDO~1 file in Exlporer, I couldn't find it. I did find something similar under Registry Cleaner named SeekDoesAudio. Under that file there are 14 subfiles and one is MultiPokeBolt.exe.

When my system reboots it takes a long time because it keeps trying to configure "Photo Gallery".
Rebooting and opening the first email in Outlook Express are extremely slow.

Here's the log:

1. Photo Gallery by what company? There are a couple.

2. I also need to know what antivirus you are going to keep (1). We will start and remove a lot of unnecessary items from your automatic startup list. All other ativirus should be removed but one. Weekly, you can go online and have one of the AV online scanners check your system if you want ot be sure.

I did a search and the only one to show up with the words "photo gallery" is an HP program (it probably came with my very new printer). I would like to keep McAfee VS. Can you tell me how people know the name of their malware? You said I had LOP but I never heard the term before. Thanks so much for your help! Mary J

1. Photo Gallery: To remedy the situation, after we are done, is to uninstall then reinstall the aplllication.

2. Identifying the names of malware. Most of the names come from the big antivirus companies. How they decide is anyone's guess.

3. You should uninstall Bit Defender as you are keeping McAfee. 9I prefer BitDefender). Also consider uninstalling Popup STopper as you have this capability through Windows. Overkill slows down machines/

4. These programs can be emoved from the automatic startup list. When needed, you can start them nanually.

  • Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VirusScan Online] "c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshld.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Component Manager] "C:\Program Files\HP\hpcoretech\hpcmpmgr.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Registry Cleaner] "C:\Program Files\TPT Registry_Cleaner (Trial)\RegClean.exe"
    O4 - Global Startup: HP Image Zone Fast Start.lnk = C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqthb08.exe

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

  • Reboot Your System

  • Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now. In addition, please tell me if there are any more malware problems that you are aware of.

Wow, I'm half asleep waiting for stuff to happen on my computer. These are some things that happened.
1) After I rebooted, ewido started doing an update. It seemed locked so I said OK to cancel update and then it quickly went to 100%. It did this twice.
2) I noticed that in Add/Remove I have two copies of HJT. Should one be removed?
3) In Add/Remove, I found Pop Up Blocker, said to remove it and the message said it was probably removed at an earlier time, Would I like it removed from the Add/Remove list. I said yes, but when I rebooted, there it was again. (Panic Ware - Pop-Up Stopper)
4) Picture Package was trying to load so I did a search to see where it was and for Picture Package it found 34 files. Some of them looked like duplicates. I also got something about SonyTray.exe trying to run.

Did you say you prefer Bit Defender?
I tried to remove it in Add/Remove but it wasn't listed. I did a search and found 3 files. How do you uninstall something that doesn't show up in Add/Remove - Explorer?
Sorry for so many questions!

1. Yes, you should remove one copy of HJT.

2. I will help you emove Popup Stopper and Bit Defender from your syste,

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BDSwitchAgent] C:\Program Files\Softwin\BitDefender8\\bdswitch.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BDNewsAgent] c:\progra~1\softwin\bitdef~1\bdnagent.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BDMCon] c:\progra~1\softwin\bitdef~1\bdmcon.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PopUpStopperBasic] "C:\PROGRA~1\PANICW~1\POP-UP~1\PSBasic.exe"
    O4 - Global Startup: Picture Package Menu.lnk = ?
    O4 - Global Startup: Picture Package VCD Maker.lnk = ?

    C:\PROGRAM FILES\PANICWARE<==Folder
    C:\Program Files\Softwin<==Folder

  • Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

  • Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now.
Regards,

Trevuren

After you've helped me clean mine, do you recommend any software like Registry Mechanic?

When I was doing the fix on the 6 files, I got this error message.
Unexpected error occurred!
Error #52 (Bad file name or number) in Sub GetLongPath(?.exe).

Please send a report to [email protected], mentioning what you were doing, and what version of Windows you have.

This message has been copied to your clipboard.

I tried sending the message to the person mentioned in the error but it came back as an undeliverable address.
