What I mean is when you backed up that wininet.dll file, did you save it directly to the floppy or did you save it to a folder in your floppy disk? If no folder, but directly onto the floppy, then that's the main/root directory of the floppy.

OK, we'll have to direct this to the Windows ME forum. Post in that forum and ask them how you can get that wininet.dll file back to your computer. See how they tell you to extract the file from the CD - try not to get it online because the version may not be the same. So ask them how to extract that file from your Windows ME CD.

Then come back here when ready.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Also if you have any programs that may prevent system changes (like Spybot's TeaTimer program, Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, and others), make sure you disable them before doing any of the fixes (or accept the changes for the fix we give you when asked by the programs).

Go to My Computer->Tools (or View)->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders (it's Show all files for Windows 98).
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs (run in Safe Mode) already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Ewido (only if you have Windows 2000 or XP). If you didn't, do them now. For more information, go to http://www.greyknigh...com/spyware.htm

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode (if you don't know how, go to http://www.bleepingc...showtutorial=61 ). Make sure to close any open browsers.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you check the last one:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {2AF82CC3-52E9-F141-D1FA-788E827B797F} - ftbar.dll (file missing)
N2 - Netscape 6: user_pref("browser.search.defaultengine", "engine://C%3A%5CPROGRAM%20FILES%5CNETSCAPE%5CNETSCAPE%206%5Csearchplugins%5CSBWeb_02.src"); (C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\9nxn93v1.slt\prefs.js)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sysconf16] Preliminary.exe

Locate the following Files/Folders and delete them if they exist (if no location given, just do a search for them):

ftbar.dll
Preliminary.exe

Restart and run a new Panda scan. Save the log file and post it here along with a new HijackThis log.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Right click and copy the below lines. Go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say Yes:

C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\New Folder\euox.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\on.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\favme.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\bndmod.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\hlmicro.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\csdms.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MIBK.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\bbol.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\csgqr.exe
C:\Recycled\Q330995.exe

If you get a PendingOperations message, just close it and restart your computer manually.

Restart...

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Run a new Panda scan and post the log here.

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

Thank you so much for your help! You all have been great! I am having one problem though. I don't use it much but IE keeps freezing. I do ctrl- alt- del and I try to end task my computer freezes. It seems like it does it more when my computer is first started. Later in the day it doesn't seem to do it. Or maybe it is just a coincidence. Also do I need to undo the changes I made to my settings when we started? Thanks again! Edited to add that the timing had nothing to do with it. I just tried after it has been on all day and it did it again.

Do you mean the settings to make all files visible and the others...? Yes, you may change them back now :tazz:

That's not normal. IE shouldn't be causing those problems unless it's somehow corrupted. Do you by any chance see Internet Explorer listed in the Add/Remove panel? If you do, double click on it and choose to do a Repair on it. If you don't see it, ask this in the Windows ME forum and find out how you can repair it (or repair Windows ME) without losing your data.

Any other questions?

IE was in the add/remove panel, I repaired it and it works fine now. That was a quick fix, too bad they all are not than easy. No more questions, everything seems to be okay now. You all have been a tremendous help. I don't know what I would have done without you. Thank you again!
