We gave our old compaq presario to the kids after they went on Kazaa and downloaded some music files and got a virus. Yes, we have McAffe but I guess they ignored it or something. The whole upshot was a computer that was all of a sudden riddled with hundreds of popups and IE windows ( I typically use Avant browser) asking if we wanted to download (security warning windows) a variety of programs. We shipped it off to the upstairs and got a new Dell.

2 weeks ago, oldest daughter was surfing on the new Dell, with XP, and went to some site, (she doesn't recall which one,) and all of a sudden something started downloading,according to her. Well. I now have popups like crazy~~ A week or so later,a trojan was detected by McAffe and gotten rid of. I have run Spybot, tried to do a system restore to an earlier date and still am having tons of popups. I want my old virgin, clean Dell back. I have run McAfee in safe mode and it picks up a bunch of adware and spyware and removes it all but the PC is still quirky now.

Some things that were initially downloaded I think, and keep showing up in Spybot are: Newton knows. Also spybot removed Virtual Bouncer but I had to remove Wild Tangent, shortcut and all associated files manually. Where does this stuff come from and is it still lurking in my PC? What can I do?

Here is the logfile of what Hijack This found. I ran it after running updated Spybot and Ad-Aware. I am also finding an odd All about searching.com pop up bar opener that is now on my PC. Sorry, cannot seem to figure out how to attach the file that I saved by using solid capture to give you an image of the toolbar that is still popping up.

I just ran CW shredder and it asked me if I wanted to remove this file:


C:\WINDOWS\Wast.exe

But suggested I check with a spyware message forum to confirm it as unnecessary before getting rid of it. Also anyone familiar with:

C:\WINDOWS\zb7tgk88.exe/dk



Just had some probs this past week with spyware and have run spybot, ad-adware and CWShredder and posted results after running Hijack THis on a message in the XP forum re: OOOPs daughter did it again, messed up Dell.

Anyway, any info would be appreciated before I figure out whether or not to delete it.

Yes they can be removed with CWShredder.

Also, please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log.
