Hi. I see a bunch of people have the same problem that I do, namely the Trojan Vundo virus.

I am hesitant to follow the directions in some of these other threads for fear of messing something up that may be different on my computer.

Anyone that can walk me through this, it would be GREATLY appreciated.

I deleted all the stuff in the ad-aware step. However, when I went to CWshredder, I get an error message stating that it is not a valid Win32 application.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Uninstall MyWay via your Add/Remove panel.

Please download VundoFix.exe at http://www.atribune....ds/VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

* Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files.
* After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key (or F5 in some machines) until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
* Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
* Please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhi.dll

* Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
* When asked for a second path, enter -> C:\WINDOWS\system32\ihkmp.*
* Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
* The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
* In HijackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

* Pressing any key will cause a 'Blue Screen of Death' this is normal, do not worry!

Download and install CleanUp! http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click 'Options...'
Move the arrow down to 'Custom CleanUp!'
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

* Empty Recycle Bins
* Delete Cookies
* Delete Prefetch files
* Cleanup! All Users

Click OK. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run an online virus scan at ActiveScan http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.htm

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

I went to tghe first step, removing "MyWay" (whatever that is). However, when I try to remove it, it gives me a "The specified module could not be found message".

I can't restart my computer. It looks like I have service pack 2 based on what I get after I select safe mode. When I went to microsoft's site to get service pack 1 and to get my system updated, it said there weren't any uploads necessary, so does that mean I already had service pack 2?

Got it to open.

Anyway, when I ran the ActiveScan, it said no viruses or malacious software had been discovered.

Of the programs that I downloaded today (Spysweeper, AdAware, Spybot Search, Ewido, Hijack This, VundoFix, and Cleanup), which ones should I keep around and which, if any, can be tossed?

Hi Paul, no problem glad we could help.

For those programs you mentioned, delete VundoFix and keep the others. All are good to have. If you didn't buy SpySweeper yet, then uninstall that. The others are all freebies (or have free versions - Ewido will become free after 14 days ).
