So I have the virtumondo virus on my computer and I haven't been able to get it off. My norton isn't recognizing it at all. This is what I've done to try to resolve this:

I downloaded and ran winsock[code=auto:0]fix. I cleaned temporary files. I updated and customized my scanning preferences on adaware-se. I downloaded CWshredder, spybot, ewido, trojan hunter and all windows updates. I also ran panda scan. I have attempted to manually delete the subkeys in regedit while my computer is in safe mode. I've run all the scans multiple times in the safe mode. I want to throw the machine out the window at this point. I've read the other threads and tried to use the other advice, but I'm not sure how to interpret the hijack this results. Is there any one that would have a chance to read my hijack this results and offer me any suggestions? I would be so appreciative if someone could help me out with this.

Thank you so much in advance for ANY help or assistance anyone can offer me in this! I appreciate it so much.

Hello I'bin-mundoed and welcome to Geeks to Go!

Let's remove Vundu, along with some other minor things, shall we?

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.14 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.

  • Next you will see:

Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljjge.dll

  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.

  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\egjjl.*
  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = <a href=\"http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com\" target=\"_blank\">http://searchbar.fin...youneed.com</a>
    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {52B1DFC7-AAFC-4362-B103-868B0683C697} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljjge.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msresearch] C:\WINDOWS\msresearch.exe
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: ljjge - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljjge.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
  • Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry! If you do not receive the "Blue Screen of Death", please manually reboot the computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Now open Add/Remove Programs (via Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs)
Find and delete the following programs, if they are there:

180SearchAssistant

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Ok...so I'm pretty sure I still have some sort of virus on here. My adaware still recognizes that a virtumondo is present on my computer. Did I do anything wrong?

I so appreciate your help! Thanks!

Hello I'bin-mundoed welcome back!

Vundu is still "there", however it's easily removable now. Also, did you delete "180SearchAssistant" ?
Let's get started! You may want to PRINT this out, so you will have them with you the entire time.

STEP 1:

Open HijackThis! and scan your computer. Place a check next to the following entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {52B1DFC7-AAFC-4362-B103-868B0683C697} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msresearch] C:\WINDOWS\msresearch.exe
O20 - Winlogon Notify: ljjge - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljjge.dll (file missing)

Now close ALL windows and browsers, execpt for HJT, and click on "Fix Checked".

Good!

STEP 2:

Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode" (do this by tapping F8 as your computer is starting up, then selecting "Safe Mode" from the menu)
Open Explorer via right clickong on "Start" then "Explore"
Find and delete the following files in RED: (NOTE: some may not be there, that's OK!)

C:\WINDOWS\msresearch.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljjge.dll

Great!

STEP 3:

Open Add/Remove Programs via clicking on Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Delete the following programs, if present:

180SearchAssistant

Excellent! Now reboot your computer normally.

STEP 4:

Post a fresh HJT log! Tell me how things are going!

Hello I'bin-mundoed and welcome back!! Great news! Your log is clean! If you are having anymore problems, be sure to let me know, if not then I advise reading this prevention speech.

Excellent your all clean!

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  • Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
  • Weather Watcher - Free taskbar weather program that is free, malware free, and resource light.
