Tab Button = Standby

An body help, my mate's pc (XP pro SP2) has an affliction whereby everytime he presses the tab button it goes into standby mode.
Have run all spyware removal tools etc but have no idea what's causing this, it means he can't even switch between app or anything.

Hi Prime,
Maybe his keyboard-layout is not configered propely and the Tab key is acting as the Sleep key.
Before we jump to the above conclusion, I want you to follow the steps below:
Goto Control Panel -> Power Options.
In the Power Options dialog, click the Advanced tab; Is the the status of the "When I press the sleep button on my computer" setting on Standby.
