[misstepp]

Help! Don't know how I managed to contract this virus. I've gone through the malware procedures and Ewido's active protection continues to detect this, delete it and then detect it again.

* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders (it's Show all files for Windows 98).
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs (run in Safe Mode) already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Ewido (only if you have Windows 2000 or XP). If you didn't, do them now. For more information, go to http://www.greyknigh...com/spyware.htm

Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

sc delete ssl
del delete.bat

Save the file as "delete.bat". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. If any are not cleanable, copy and paste the infected files here. You may also use Panda ActiveScan at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Post the log from the Panda scan here.

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here along with the Panda log.

I've done everything on the list including running the programs again in safe mode. It's definately still out there. Trendsetter didn't detect anything, but Panda did. Also, with Ewido installed, the active scanning is turned on and it periodically detects the virus again.

The Ewido quarantine log says:

Can you find a file that has no name with a .exe extension in your system32 folder?

Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for Microsoft SSL (ssl) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

sc stop ssl
sc delete ssl
del delete.bat

Save the file as "delete.bat". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it.

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc Tools->Delete an NT service and type in ssl and hit OK.

Check and fix these in HijackThis:

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Copy the below files and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say Yes:

C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\config\aio.exe

If you get a PendingOperations message, just close it and restart your computer manually.

Restart and run another Panda scan. Post that log here along with a new HijackThis log.

Was that exe created recently? Upload that file to http://virusscan.jotti.org and report back what it found.

WELL....in going through the other steps, the file was evidently deleted because it's not there now. Panda is finishing up now and I'll post the logs in a minute. It found a virus again but this time it says it disinfected. I should have those logs posted soon.
