hi! i'm new here and i've been experiencing problems regarding 69sexsearch. as i stumbled through this forum, i started reading different posts regarding my problem and it was only now that i heard of hijackthis. it seems that i need that software to fix this problem and so i downloaded it. what happened was when i ran it and tried to save a log file, a virus popped up (MHTMLRedir.Exploit).

can anyone help me with this? where can i get a clean version of hijackthis and how can i fix the problem regarding 69sexsearch coz its really annoying...

hi thatman, thanks for the help but still, i can't seem to save an hjt log file because everytime i try to save a log file, my antivirus detects a virus so i can't open the file and post its contents here.... the name of the virus is MHTMLRedir.Exploit .... what should i do?

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:

Boot normally and download Ad-aware from: http://www.lavasoftu...pport/download/

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the main window, click on teh globe icon and download the latest reference files.

Next, we need to configure Ad-aware for a full scan.

-> Click on the Gear icon (second from the left) to access the preferences/settings window

1. In the General window make sure the following are selected:

• Automatically save log-file
• Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
• Safe Mode (always request confirmation)

2. Click on the Scanning button on the left and select :

• Scan Within Archives
• Scan Active Processes
• Scan Registry
• Deep Scan Registry
• Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
• Scan my Hosts file
• Under Click here to select drives + folders, choose:
• All of your hard drives

-> Click on the Advanced button on the left and select:

• Include additional process information
• Include additional file information
• Include environment information
• Include additional object details

-> Click the Tweak button and select:

• Under the Scanning Engine:
  • Unload recognized processes during scanning
  • Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
  • Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
• Under the Cleaning Engine:
  • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

-> Click on Proceed to save the settings.

-> Click Start and on the next screen choose Activate in-depth Scan at the bottom of the page and then choose:

• Use Custom Scanning Options

-> Click Next and Ad-aware will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected.

-> Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish

-> When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next).

-> Reboot your computer and post a new log.

also, i still haven't downloaded and installed ad-aware.... i've been using the anti-spy of yahoo! though...will it suffice if i continue to use that? thanks a lot for the help!

hey by the way, i have a friend who's having trouble with a certain virus/trojan.... i think its name is download.trojan.... do you know anything about it? he's tried scanning with different antivirus programs but he still can't get it out.

Download.trojan sounds like a generic description. Maybe a HijackThis log will show us what is going on.
