I wasn't sure to put this in the gaming section (that's how the problem got brought up) or in this section, but I figured here since I just want to know how to get the IP address of a PC behind a router.

I just put this router in and have been playing on gaming systems like Gamespy and Zone.com, so I never realized that I didn't actually know how to get the IP address of my own PC until I tried to do a IP game with someone else in Dawn of War.

How do you get your IP address if your computer is on a router, so that for example, you could host a game in Dawn of War, Warcraft 2, Starcraft, Homeworld etc.? I'm able to connect to other people (who don't have a router obviously) and able to play on things like gamespy, but I can't host a game cause we can't figure out my IP address for people to connect to. Running ipconfig just gives me the address of the thing the router set me as, people aren't able to connect to it.

Hmm, that's a good question. I would go here:

Click "Tests + Tools" on the left side of the screen.
Click "Your IP address, IP whois"

It will tell you what your public IP is. You can also search other ones.

I believe the IP address the test there gives me IS my IP address, but the problem is, I'm a router and that is split up between 4 computers. So how would I host a game in say, Dawn Of War or Warcraft and give people my address so they could connect to me? I have already tried the IP address given at whatismyip.com (which is the same one that dslreports.com gave me) and people were unable to connect to me through that IP (probably because it couldn't get past the router).

Any idea's on how to get the computer behind a router a specific IP so people can connect to it directly?

The only 2 IP's that I can think of that you could possibly have is your Public IP which you said doesn't work and your Local IP, which would most likely be something like 192.168.x.y and I couldn't see you giving that one to people on the internet, because that's not a valid "Public" range. So If you're hosting this game locally among the pc's all behind the same router, you would use the local IP, if you're hosting over the internet then you must use your public IP. If that doesn't work then I would check to see which exact port numbers you need to keep open on the router for each specific game and the protocols you need to allow to pass through those ports.

Alright I was messing with my router settings last night and found a spot to do the port forwarding for games and applications etc. Now I just have to figure out what ports my games use so I can have it all configured for me to host games. Any suggestions on how to get the correct ports a game uses?

Usually you can find out which ports by checking gamers forums like gamespot.com or something along those lines. There are many forums that will have people who know the exact port numbers. I wish I could help with that, but unfortunately I can't. Maybe if you post in the games forum here asking for the ports for those specific games someone may know. Good luck!
