1. Download to your desktop the Resources.zip file included as an attachment.

2. Using, Windows Explorer, navigate to the following folder : C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Luna

3. If the Luna Folder does not exist, create it.

4. Unzip the Resources.zip file and Extract ALL the files to the LUNA folder.

5. REBOOT your system

6. Check your theme options

7. Please advise.

Maybe I wasn't clear. It is not the theme for Windows XP that is gone, I do not use the theme. I have my own wall paper. The option that is missing is in properties, under the Appearance tab, there is a drop down labeled "Windows and Buttons", the only option here is Windows Classic Style. I believe that this is whats wrong. I used to have the rounded edged windows instead of the squared ones. I do not know if the Luna theme is supposed to bring this back, but when I pick luna as a theme, it selects the Windows XP theme. Which was not missing, but even when this theme is selected, the "Windows and Buttons" drop down is still set to Windows Classic Style.

Thanks again

Try setting up the preceeding files this way first. If this doesn't work, I'll have to do more researching.

Please note, there are differences in the set up from the last. This is the link where we will be looking for a cure of the "Button" situation if this new install version doesn't not work as intended.

Your Luna theme is probably corrupted or missing.

1. Download Resources.zip from HERE
  • Scroll down the page to #187.
  • On the right side you will see Restore Luna theme-Restore Classic theme.
  • Right-click on the file and save it to your desktop.
  • Depending how your machine is set up, you will either see a Winzip file called Resources, or a WinXP Zip folder called Resources.
2. Whichever it is, open the downloaded file and find the file named Luna.msstyles... the file size will be 4,089 kbytes.

3. Move this file to C:\Windows\Rescources\Themes\Luna

4. You may already have the same Luna file listed in this folder, but you must replace it with the new one.

5. REBOOT your system

6. Go to Display Properties and you should be able to choose the XP theme again .[/list]
Note: If more that one file in C:\Window\Resources is corrupted, you could also very well replace all the files.

No changes. This webpage might have something. I looked on another computer, the Windows and Buttons option I am trying to get back is called Windows XP style, which looks like the screen on the top left (or top middle, they are pretty similar), but the only option I have is windows classic, which looks like the screen on the top right. Is there something on this page that I might be able to use?

Thanks again

This may work:

Once you have downloaded the regfile to your desktop, doubleclick on it and it will ask you for permission to merge with your registry. Answer yes. Once completed, reboot your machine and try it out.

That page is divided into 2 columns. The entries in the column on the left are numbered. You scroll down the page until tou reach topic # 271 "titled "Stuck in Classic Mode?" you click on the link which brings up a download page.

I don't get a download page. When I click the link it shows me the text for the reg file. I copied it into a notepad file and saved it as a reg file. I do not see any changes. Would the name of the file matter, or is it just whats inside?

No just the content matters.

Here is aother one to try:

1. PLease download Fixreg.zip from

HERE

2. Unzip the file and there are 2 reg files inside.

3. Merge # 1, then #2

4. REBOOT your machine

5. Tell me how it goes.

That is all I have. Sorry. The only other suggestion that I have is to perform a Windows XP repair. You keep your programs and data but revert back to the Windows version that was on your original CD. Then you must do all upgrades to bring it up to scratch. If it interests you, please tell me and I will direct you to the proper info about the procedure. If not, we will complete the final cleanup procedures.
