I have read your starting point post for malware and ran disk cleanup, Ad-aware SE, CWShredder, Spybot S&D, Ewido Security Suite (which i liked and found 8 problems) and TrojanHunter (which was slow and locked up the first time i ran it)
ran Windows update (alresy have service pack 2). Restarted and my viruse software (symantic) said that the trojan vundo virus was found and unable to delete clean or quarantine the virus and that it was located in C:\windows\system32\vtsqq.dll.
As instructed in step five i installed HijackThis and scanned my computer. My log is posted below. Thank you for your hwlp you site has tought me alot in just the two days i've been viewing it.

P.S. i have noticed others with a trogan.vundo but they have a different .dll file name is one worse that the other?

Thanks again,

Stalker Jay

Hello again StalkerJay :tazz:

I need you to do a simple thing for me first and place that hijack log in a safer place.

Double-click on the zip file containing the HijackThis.exe file. Select the HijackThis.exe, and hit the combination “Ctrl + C”.
Minimize the zipfolder, and go to My Computer. Double-click on C:/, then double-click on Program Files.

In the menu bar you’ll find “File”. Click it, then choose “New”, and then “Folder”.

Call this folder HijackThis. Double-click to open this – new – folder.
Now use the combination “Ctrl + V” to paste the HijackThis.exe into this folder. Now close all other windows, and double-click on the HijackThis.exe in the folder you’ve just created.

And then lets get rid of the biggest problem first and we will go from there.

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqq.dll
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\qqstv.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqq.dll
    O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windup...e/bridge-c8.cab
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtsqq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqq.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
  • Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

First off thanks for all your help! now after running VundoFix.exe and restarting into safe mode i entered the file paths you instructed and HijackThis ran by itself but the O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqq.dll was not listed (probably a good thing) and O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtsqq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqq.dll said (file missing) after it (i checkied it anyhow because it was there). ran clean up and man did that delete a lot of crap!!!

Here is my active scan

Hi Jay :tazz:

To answer that question about vundo, yes they are random entries.

Fire up hijack this, press scan only and place checks next to these.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windup...e/bridge-c8.cab
O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtsqq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqq.dll (file missing)

Close all browsers and click fix on hijack this.

Reboot and show me a new log please. :)

Hi Jay :tazz:

Looks like i missed something last time.

Fire up hijack this, press scan only and place a check next to this.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00000000-0000-48A1-AA9F-D2360270FBF0} - C:\Program Files\ProSiteFinder\ProSiteFinder.dll (file missing)

Close all browsers and click fix on hijack this.

Then I want you to download and run this tool.

Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido security suite.

Reboot and show me the ewido results and a new hijack log please. :)

Howdy John :)

I clicked scan and save on HijackThis i hope that doesn't make a difference!

i have ewido security suite as it was a pre-post requirement for your wonderfull forum but i don't remember having to uncheck the "additional options" you listed: Install background guard and Install scan via context menu is there way i can do this after install? i click around and see if i can find it in some settings. I'll save the .txt file and post it later otherwise here is my HijackThis log after deleting the O2-PrositeFinder.dll

Thanks again :tazz:

Okay John :woot:

Here is my ewido log

you may have noticed WESB listed alot of places, this is because you are helping me repair the internet computer in the AM broadcast studio for the radio station i work at. Here is the issue, and i hope doesn't change my repairs (and maybe be a new topic ) it is a networked computer and alot of different "computer experts" that work here as radio people, not computer people have tried to fix it (you guys are the only sucessfull ones) and i now have alot of fixvundo and other exe files and scanning software on this pc. I would think that would ruin a computers regestry and clog it up. So i was going to reformat after the trojan was gone and i could back up some of the audio we have on here. Is this recomended? Have i dumped a big load on you? should i post this somewere else in the forum? Thanks again for all your help!!

Hi Jay :)

Ok from my end you are clean congrats!!!! :tazz: I simply had you run that ewido log just to make sure i didn't miss anything else.

I really can see no need to do a format, but it's your machine not mine. As far as any networking questions i will have to direct you here for that.

http://www.geekstogo...hp?showforum=11

these folks should be able to help you right out.

Now I will post my finishing speech.

Since your issues have been addressed and you are ready to travel the net again, I will just give you a few ideas on how to stay safe out there. Best of all these programs are all readily available on the net for free :woot:

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

More info and download is available at:

Spyware Blaster Spyware Guard

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE--Adaware Tutorial

Spybot S&D--Spybot Tutorial

Antiviruses play an important role in keeping your computer safe and worry free while using the net. *NOTE* Only one antivirus must be allowed to run on your computer, as having two or more running can and will cause conflicts.

AVG Avast

Firewalls are also a must in any good prevention :

Zone Alarm Sygate Kerio

There are different browsers available on the net, other than Internet Explorer, we believe!! these are better for security purposes :

Firefox Opera

You must stay on top of your updates at all times, for the above mentioned applications.

It is vitally important to stay on top of your critical updates provided by microsoft.

This can be accessed by going to Windows Updates and following the prompts.

To add to the performance of your computer, i suggest a weekly maintenance program. Run this tool. Ccleaner

Lastly a second opinion on the Antivirus that you have chosen. I suggest running these online virus scans periodically, just to make sure that the av is doing a proper job, of keeping you safe :

Rav Online Scan Housecall Online Scan Panda Activescan

Housecall Java Online Scan<---For those who use Firefox

And finally a little Posted Image How did I get infected in the first place ? (by Mr. Tony Klein and dvk01)

Good luck and safe surfing :woot:
