Hello Dave

Well the folder does contain all nasties. Please delete the whole folder named BUNDLE. You will probably have to do this in safe mode.

Your HJT log is still clean.

Let me know how the system is running now.

Phil,

The bundles folder was deleted in safe mode without dificulty. The compter seems to be running fine now. I do have an error message in Outlook that tells me each time I open the program that "The data file "file archives" was not closed properly" and has to re-check evertime Outlook opens fresh after a reboot. This is probably not part of the thread we have discussed unless it is a side effect of one of the critters. If you know of this, let me know. Otherwise I might go ahead and post the issue on the other forum.

I have to say that the workings of Outlook have been a mystery to me since the year 2000. I am not aware of any impacts upon it from what we have done.

Can I suggest that you try our Microsoft Office forum for that particular problem?

Congratulations! your new log is clean. :tazz: Just a little bit more to do to prevent further infection.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programmes changing them. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
I recommend going to the following link and update as recommended by Microsoft. This adds more security and extra features including a pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer. Microsoft Update

Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you consider getting these programmes to help keep the computer clean:

SPYWARE BLASTER - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer.
AD-AWARE PERSONAL – A fine free malware detector and removal programme
SPYBOT S&D – Excellent free spyware detector and removal programme
GOOGLE TOOLBAR - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
FIREFOX - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
AVG ANTIVIRUS FREE EDITION - Free antivirus programme if you currently are not using one.
ZONEALARM - Free firewall programme if you currently are not using one (Windows XP has a built-in firewall).

Remember to update these frequently.

Please note that whilst there is nothing wrong in having more than one antispyware programmes for “on demand” scanning, having two or more antivirus systems is not recommended as they may well interfere with each other.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep your Windows, antispyware and antivirus updated. :)

Phil,
I don't know if this has been closed-out or not. Last night my daughter clicked on something while chatting with her friends on AIM and it loaded a bunch of crap on my comptuer again. I have run my Microsoft Antispyware and found a bunch of items I removed. I also ran the edwido program and it found a bunch also. Nothing came up on my antivirus program scan. I would appreciate it if you would check this latest log and see if I need to do anything else. Sorry to have to do this agian.

Download
AIMFix

Please double-click the AIMFix.exe file to start the process. Please wait while the programme scans your PC for AIM associated malware. When complete a list will appear, a log will be saved and Finished will appear. Please include that log in your reply.

Rescan with HijackThis. Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a checkmark or tick against the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Update 64 BIT] wininit32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Windows DLL Services Configuration] windir32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Update 64 BIT] wininit32.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following file, and delete it:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wininit32.exe
windir32.exe - use search to find this file

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

Please post the scan result and a fresh HJT log.

Phil,
Here's the latest log after performing the tasks you suggested. I did not find wininit32.exe from safe mode. I am leaving town today and returning on Sunday. If ther eare more tasks, I will do them sunday night. Thank you for everything!

That all looks good to me, and interesting to note that it found the file you were looking for, hence you could not find it (C:\WINDOWS\System32\wininit32.exe quarantined).

I have to conclude that you are now clean.
