Hi, I have 2 computers but i will only talk about one for now. i have run every spyware removal software you have here & they were pretty good with cleaning up my computers, thank you! :tazz: but i'm not sure that everything was cleaned out because my norton antivirus keeps picking up these things all which were located in system32. norton was unable to clean or quarantine them. i had to put my system in safemode to be able to quarantine them. (gwpq.exe, msn9.exe, winjava.exe) they all still read "infected". these things also still show up on my startup & some are duplicated. i have this computer networked to another through a broadband router. <<<don't know if it means anything but thought i should mention it just incase they may be infecting eachother.

my questions are...
how do i get rid of them?
do you see anything i may have missed in my HJT log?

i see these other items on my startup i think they are suspicious, are they?
bling.exe & wunupds.exe :)

i enabled everything on my startup before i ran HJT, here is the log. i thank you in advance for your time

do i take it out of quarantine to email it to you or keep it in jail

If you could please, Then throw it right back into jail

Next,
  • I see that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is a very helpful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
  • Open Spybot-S&D
  • Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
  • On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
  • Restart your computer.
  • Be sure you enable TeaTimer once we have cleaned your system.
Next,
Go to Start > Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the below services:

Enables Java Support (Java)

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, under the General tab click the Stop button, then click the drop-down box to change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.

Next,
Please open HJT> Click on the Config button> Click >Misc. Tools > Click > Open Process manager> Check Show DLLs > Highlight “ wunupds.exe “ >Click> Kill process>
Next click the scan button and put a check mark next to the following, close all open windows , Click “ Fix Checked”
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Windows update 2005] wunupds.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSN Service Pro2] gwpq.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSN9 Startup] msn9.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Update Manager] scvhost.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [MSN9 Startup] msn9.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [MSN Service Pro2] gwpq.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Windows update 2005] wunupds.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Update] bling.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Update Manager] scvhost.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Update] bling.exe
O23 - Service: Enables Java Support (Java) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\winjava.exe (file missing)

Reboot to safe mode ( by tapping the F8 key on start up ) make sure you can view all hidden folders/files View Hidden Folders search for and delete the following in BOLD

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wunupds.exe
Its likely all the rest are sitting in C:\WINDOWS\system32\
gwpq.exe
msn9.exe
bling.exe
scvhost.exe
<-- Be careful with this one note the “c” and “v” are reveresed the legit file is “svchost”

C:\WINDOWS\System32\winjava.exe

Restart your computer, restart HJT and post back a fresh log

Keep in mind once we get you cleaned up your going to want to change all your online passwords

GM don, my hotmail would'nt let me mail that file to you "contained a virus that could not be cleaned" i kinda would have lost faith in email virus protection if it had let me mail it to ya,lol

023-service:enablesjava support..... was not on hjt list

none of the files were in system32 that you told me to delete, i even did a search for them & still no show. so i went to my norton & deleted them out of quarantine (hope that was ok) :tazz:

while i was in quarantine there were a few more things discovered lastnight they are as follows

Sexy.pif, mrc.exe, scirpts.exe, tn.exe, ftp.exe (should i deleted those also?)

thanks

Great job :tazz:

my hotmail would'nt let me mail that file to you "contained a virus that could not be cleaned" i kinda would have lost faith in email virus protection if it had let me mail it to ya,lol

My bad should have you zip it up prior to sending

Sexy.pif, mrc.exe, scirpts.exe, tn.exe, ftp.exe (should i deleted those also?)

You can leave those for now, Give it a week or so and make sure everything is running properly on your system then you can go ahead and delete them

Go ahead and reset Tea timer

Nice job your log is clean !
How is it running ?
Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep AD-Aware. and Spybot 1.3 handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
Click Start | Run | type in cleanmgr | OK

Let it scan your system for files to remove.

Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.

Press OK to remove them.

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Probably a good time to create a new restore point See Here for XP

See Here for ME Name it clean or something like that,

You should go ahead and change all your online passwords now as well

THANK YOU DON! I bought this dell a month ago for $50 @ a flea market you have helped make it a GREAT find. it's running just fine.

quick question...i have our main computer networked with this one through broadband router & they share files, printers etc. is there anything i need to know to keep this computer safe from cross contamination?or will my Norton & other things take care of that?

you will be recieving my donation in PAYPAL very soon :tazz:
i do appreciate your time

last question for you...
i will be posting about our other computer, my kids have gotten our moneys worth out of it & then some.
it runs slow...system response, programs & most times web pages take some time to load. do i start a new post or do i continue with that computer here?

Keep this one clean is the best way :tazz:

I m assumeing you are talking about sharing files meaning word doc's and such, there should be now problem doing that or sharing the printer.
Now if the kids are click on downloads and programs and we dont know what they are then yes there is a chance to pass it from one to the other.

Normally we suggest starting a new topic, But post a log from it here, If its something we can take care of quickly it will be fine, If not I will move it to a new topic and continue helping you there,

THANKS AGAIN imma HAPPY MOMMA! <doing corney dance> lol

Keep this one clean is the best way :woot:

this is MY bedroom computer, kids will sign thier death sentence if they touch it. :tazz: so yea IT WILL STAY CLEAN! :woot:

Now if the kids are click on downloads and programs and we dont know what they are then yes there is a chance to pass it from one to the other.

they NOW understand the importance of MY computer rules ( NO DOWNLOADING, OFF LIMIT WEBSITES, ETC without my consent. so if the main computer can be cleaned, i'm sure it will stay that way. they miss how well it use to run. so there should be no cross contamination.

Normally we suggest starting a new topic, But post a log from it here, If its something we can take care of quickly it will be fine, If not I will move it to a new topic and continue helping you there,

Thank you, but something tells me you're gonna have to move it to a new post lol
i'll be back in a lil while with that log (may take a lil time) it's a lil slow to get going

Thats a great deal !!!

what can i say imma Momma of 4, i HAVE to bargain shop & i loveeeeeeee EBAY! :) :woot:

hi don i'm back
ok quick summary

keep in mind this computer is 3 years old now & at one point had lots of spyware on it from kids visiting ringtones, game sites & downloading games & my bro visiting xxx sites. i thought i cleaned it out but it never was the same since. system response & page loading are slow (approximate 15-30 sec wait time). i know i need more memory but is there anything in my log that could also be the culprit*?

Thanks

Well there is no malware running on it,

How much memory is installed in it ?

Please run these two online scans. Make sure they are set to clean automatically:

TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

You should try to delete any files that these scanners are unable to clean. Make sure you check the 'Disinfect automatically' option in Active scan, and check the “Auto Clean” option in TrendMicro, Then let us know if its working better and what the scans found.

When the scanare done they give you an option to save the logs please do so and post them back here please

Don, my baby not actin right :) ... (my bedroom puter) well everything was fine then i started having probs surfing the web saying cannot find server, then i had a registry error for windows media player & it won't work "an internal error occured" i tried re-installng but that didn't work either, you got the bad files out but i think they took some good stuff with it. i couldn't even get to this forum, eventually i just restarted my computer using last good config. now i'm here. i will use the instructions u gave me b4 to clean it again but how do i keep the good stuff in? :tazz:

Thank You

ps. i started to run a registry fixer but it got confusing, i don't wanna mess anything up (i don't have a clue with that stuff) but i learn fast
