Welcome to GTG.

Unfortunately, Norton does not block everything. You will need other programs to help block these out more efficiently (I'll give you more info when we are done).

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Please download VundoFix.exe at http://www.atribune....ds/VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

* Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files.
* After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key (or F5 in some machines) until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
* Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
* Please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqo.dll

* Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
* When asked for a second path, enter -> C:\WINDOWS\system32\oqtwa.*
* Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
* The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
* In HijackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ie.redirect.h...lion&pf=desktop
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://ie.redirect.h...lion&pf=desktop
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqo.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: awtqo - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqo.dll

* After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
* Pressing any key will cause a 'Blue Screen of Death' this is normal, do not worry!
* Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Download and install CleanUp! http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click 'Options...'
Move the arrow down to 'Custom CleanUp!'
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

* Empty Recycle Bins
* Delete Cookies
* Delete Prefetch files
* Cleanup! All Users

Click OK. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run an online virus scan at ActiveScan http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.htm

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

I went to do this today and for the first time ever, when I went to safe mode, the screen loaded with just a black screen with safe mode in all corners but no icons,start button etc. What should I do?

Restart your computer and try again. If it's still a black screen, try Safe Mode with Networking.

Got the safe mode working with networking. When I went into the bat file, I entered the first path, pressed enter, F6 and enter, but it just sits at a blinking cursor and nothing else happens, I do not get prompted to enter the second path....I tried entering it at the blinking cursor after 20 minutes but Hijack this does not open.

OK, download KillBox in Normal Mode and run the fix in Safe Mode...make sure you do the HijackThis fixes first so you can reboot immediately after running KillBox.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Right click and copy the below lines. Go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say Yes:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqo.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\oqtwa.*

If you get a PendingOperations message, just close it and restart your computer manually.

Just give me the new logs for Panda scan and HijackThis when ready.

Okay, did hijack this, removed all the files you had listed, then did the killbox...only problem I had was that I was not able to copy the files and paste to the clipboard so I typed them in individually and rebooted after both...then I went to clean up, did that, then panda and reran hijack this. I could not find the log for Panda but it came up with "0" in every field. I reran the hijack this and found that I still had files that were supposed to be removed so I did all the steps over again and still Norton is saying I have an infection. Here is my hijack file from my last scan

Let's try this again:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Please download VundoFix.exe at http://www.atribune....ds/VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

* Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files.

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqo.dll

* Empty Recycle Bins
* Delete Cookies
* Delete Prefetch files
* Cleanup! All Users

Let's try this instead:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode (if you don't know how, go to http://www.bleepingc...showtutorial=61 ).

CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Now open Ewido and do a scan on your system.

* Click on scanner.
* Click on 'Complete System Scan' and the scan will begin.
* While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose 'Remove', then put a check next to 'Perform action on all infections' in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time. Click OK.
* Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named 'Save report'.
* Click 'Save report'.
* Save the report to your desktop.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you check the last one:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqo.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: awtqo - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqo.dll

Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Right click and copy the below lines. Go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say Yes:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqo.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\oqtwa.*

If you get a PendingOperations message, just close it and restart your computer manually.

Restart your computer. Post the logs for HijackThis and Ewido.

Something is definitely wrong here...I usually don't see many problems running the VundoFix and now this happens :tazz:

Try shutting down for a few minutes and then powering back on. Does Normal Mode work? If still not, see if you can hit ctrl+alt+del to bring up the Task Manager. If so, go to File->New Task and type in explorer.exe and hit OK. See if that brings back the desktop.

If not, then I want you to get a copy of VundoFix again...delete the one you have now and use this newer one you just downloaded. Then do this while in Safe Mode:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqo.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: awtqo - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqo.dll

* Empty Recycle Bins
* Delete Cookies
* Delete Prefetch files
* Cleanup! All Users

If that still won't work, do this:

Go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. Let it scan. If it finds any files missing/corrupted, it may ask for the Windows CD.
