I am not new to computers but I lack software and networking knowledge. I am having downloading freezes and hangups using IE 6.0, Firefox 1.07, and Macromedia flash files. It doesn't matter what I'm downloading (.exe,.cpp,.jpg,etc) I sometimes have problems and other times not. Recently I've been getting 0% ability to view flash files due to freezes. I've even resorted to downloading files via a download manager app (freedownload manager) which I have to sometimes stop and restart download multiple times to complete a single download. I even have problems downloading via external apps such as Quicken,MusicMatch, and Quicktime among other programs that download. I haven't had any problems downloading updates from microsoft's windowsupdate though.

I don't normally test software but recently I've tried at least 10 programs out of curiosity which may have caused the problem. I didn't notice a problem downloading until about a week ago or so. I haven't ran or posted a HJT file yet to anyone and really don't know much about it other than its usefullness in finding malware. I did notice that one program left registry enteries and the entire program file after uninstalling

I run adaware, microsoft Antispyware, Winoptimizer Platinum Suite 2(for orphaned registry entery removal), WinTasks 5(for unknown running process identification), Panda Antivirus Titanium 6(includes firewall, antivirus, and antispyware), and I have a hardware router with firewall.

I've had the router for at least 3 years now and have ruled it out. I've run downloading tests without my Panda running to see if the firewall was interfereing with no satisfactory results.

I have identified most of these using wintasks 5 and processlibrary d o t com (not sure if I'm allowed to post links even if it is for information purposes)
This is a program running that I created for personal use
C:\WINDOWS\PROTECT\SVPROG.EXE
This is a program for passman plus password protection
C:\WINDOWS\Memory64.exe
This is for my SOYO motherboard temperature monitoring
C:\Program Files\SOYO\HW Monitor\Itesmart.exe

The rest of them I think are more common and known about.

[b]O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ALiRaid] C:\Program Files\ALIRAID\ALiRaid.exe<<WHAT IS THIS??
O4 - Startup: Tahni3D DeskMate.LNK = C:\Program Files\DeskMates\Tahni3D\Tahni3D.exe<<WHAT IS THIS??

ALiRaid.exe is a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) monitoring program that monitors the condition of the existing array's running on my machine. Tahni3D.exe was installed on this computer awhile ago but has been removed long before my problems started developing. I have checked the box for removal with Hijack This for it. I have also checked the boxes for:
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\bin\npjpi150_04.dll
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {2EAF5BB2-070F-11D3-9307-00C04FAE2D4F} - C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\inetrepl.dll

I did uninstall some software soon after doing the changes with Hijack This. I removed Microsoft's Anti-Spyware due to the fact that it is unable to update.(An issue I investigated and found to be soon fixed in the next beta release version.) I also removed Apple's iTunes since it never is used. After all the software removal I decided to test my internet functionality and came to this webpage to update my post.(After rebooting of course.) I found that I could not access this forum or the home page of geekstogo for some reason that I can't explain even now. I have attached a screencapture of the message that I was greeted with when trying to access this forum.

In an attempt to correct my problem I decided to go to the Mozilla Firefox forums to see if they had an answer. They had a general list of things to try before posting in the forum which included clearing my cache, which I did. I tested my browser again after that and it works again. I was able to access this forum right after that. So I don't know what the problem was but that ended that one. Before that, I removed and reinstalled Firefox 1.0.7 which didn't do me any good.

I guess I have two questions that this experience has generated so far. 1.)What kind of problems can lurk and stem from data stored in Cache? 2.)What does it mean to be an "Extra Button: (no name).....dll" and was it safe to delete?

Extra Button: (no name).....dll" and was it safe to delete

This section corresponds to having buttons on main Internet Explorer toolbar or items in the Internet Explorer 'Tools' menu that are not part of the default installation. From bleeping computer

Answer to cache question:

http://support.micro...om/?kbid=884191

Persistent storage
Metadata is never updated in a persistent way. When the cache operates in a non-persistent mode, the cache starts with an empty cache every time. Data and metadata are added to the cache and are processed together from that point. As items are updated, their last accessed times are kept up-to-date in the scavenging and expiration metadata. If the cache is made persistent, the updates to the metadata are still made to the in-memory metadata and are never written back to the persistent store. If the cache is restarted, the existing data items are read from the persistent store as they are accessed, but metadata is read from the persistent store in its entirety at startup and is stored in-memory. All the timestamps that are used by scavenging and expirations are reset to their original at-creation values, and any indications of updates are lost. Because the indications of updates are lost, data may not expire when it should expire or items that are not correct may be scavenged because of last accessed timestamps that are not correct.

Another problem with persistent storage is that the behavior of the data in the cache is different in this mode when compared to in-memory caches. In-memory caches offer live object references. Therefore, any changes to an item that are made by a user after the data is retrieved from the cache are reflected when the same cache item is retrieved from the cache again. The object is live and changing, and those changed values are available through the cache. If the cache is persistent, a new instance of the object is created and returned every time the user requests the object. This fundamental difference in caching behavior between in-memory caches and persistent storage must be reflected in the user code.

well, at this point after clearing the cache and deleting temp files (using controls provided by IE and Firfox within the options) I have established more regularity in being able to download files and view flash material. There have been a few instances where I had to reload the browser to finish a flash file download or restart the browser and reattempt to download. Its not a condition that is regular anymore like it was before but it does happen from time to time.

I know that posting replies before I've been helped puts me back at the bottom of the totem poll, but I had to put this tidbit of info down as I this was my journal of events. I was working on documents for class and noticed that my Panda Antivirus was updating. I noticed again before I was going to shut down my rig that it was still updating 2.5 hours later. I did a little experiment since I was short of time to put my figer on it exactly. I logged off and immediately before completing end session the screen popped up for completion of Panda Antivirus updates.

I think its conclusive that something is running, possibly in the background, that is causing this download problem. I'm willing to conduct further investigation, but I'll wait to recieve instructions to get a second opinion and compare my own to it so that I don't fudge this up.

I don't think its better but there seems to be some level of improvement. I have a higher success rate of viewing flash files without refreshing the browser and the same for downloads. Still, there are times when it is difficult to download and view a flash file and usually results in restarting the browser or the computer depending on how bad I wish to view the flash file.

What is it supposed to do?

SVPROG.EXE is Advatrack Pro software. During installation I designate the name of the exe file to confuse would be theives into thinking it is harmless. The software sends a packet of data to its home every X hours, designated by user, and this data can be used in recovery by police and proof in court. I have it installed in all my 4 computers. I've never had a problem with it. Also, a few years ago I used to use Norton system works 2003 which hated a lot of my software and was hard to configure to anything connecting to the internet independently. This little program snuck by Norton and never had any problem with it.
