I just bought a brand new laptop 2 days ago, came with XP SP2 installed and it's unbelievably slow, especially internet access. My partner had noticed her computer became really, really slow after installing SP2, I don't know if it's that. Screen refreshes had major lag. We each decided to get these new laptops and I can't stand surfing the net now. Is it something about SP2? The surfing speed through my network with my other, older laptop is running XP SP1 is so much faster than this.
We have a DSL connection and home lan through a 100Mb/sec router. The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5001.
Processor x86 Family 15 Model 36 Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~1600 Mhz (that's the AMD Turion 64 processor)
512MB RAM. 2x20GB free HDD space (a partitioned 60GB hard drive).
Anyone have any suggestions for speeding this thing up? Is it possible?
