Hey there, my name's Steph.
Like a lot of other people here, I've got the trojan.vundo virus on my computer... and it's driving me nuts. I've done everything I can think to do, including downloading all the recommended spyware removal programs on these forums (which have helped with other things except for this virus); this is basically my last resort before reformatting, so if you guys could give me a hand getting rid of it and anything else that shouldn't be there, I'd be really grateful.

Here is my hijack this! log. the file's located at C:\WINDOWS\system\dllkb.dll, but i probably don't need to tell you guys that... I've also got an ewido report available if needed. Thanks much in advance.

Hello! Thank you very much for helping me with this

I was not able to delete the first item:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system\dllkb.dll

It was not in the list of items in HJT when it opened after using vundofix. The second one was there, so I fixed that one, and manually rebooted... then when running the HJT scan again, both items were in the log but said (file missing) beside each. At that point I selected and fixed both, and they seem to be gone. I hope I did that correctly.

Here is my new HJT log and vundofix.txt, ActiveScan turned up no results in any category, therefore there was no report.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

• Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
• Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
• How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
• How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

To protect yourself further:

• IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
• Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.
