I followed all the steps that you asked of me (to the best of my ability) and it's still here!
Norton removel tool does not work. The only way to remove the Norton Virus Alert pop-up (that says I have the vundo.trojan) is to use ctrl-alt-delete and it will leave for awhile. Also It must be screwing with my email, because only if I disable Norton (for 5 minutes) can I connect to outlook express to recieve my mail.


I would also send you my ewido scan but I don't know how!! Thanks for your help....k snyder

• After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.

• Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
• Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic

I'm doing something wrong......got the vundofix.exe...got folder on the desktop...rebooted my computer into safe mode....logged on as an administrator then tried again as my self....all I get is a black screen with "safe mode" in 2 corners with" Windows something or other service pack 2 across the top of the screen"
When I logged in as myself "safe mode" was in 4 corners of the screen with something similar across the top

You are not necessarily doing something wrong. There are some cases where Safe Mode doesn't work when affected with VUNDO. Yours looks as if it is one of these, unfortunately.

Do you have your original windows xp disk? We may be able to remove this file using the recovery console.

My computer is an emachine T2825......I think xp was already on it (but I could so wrong because I'm basically clueless about this stuff) The only disks I can find are 3 restore cd's

the restore cd is provided by emachines and gives a complete backup of the software that was pre installed
on the pc at the factory. Should the software ever need to be reinstalled, the restore cd will copy the necessary
files onto the hard drive. the cd will only work with an emachines pc. Keep the restore cd and all emachines computer documentations in a safe place.

It says the same thing on all 3 cds
also has 2 phone numbers

I had to use these 1 time before when I 1st got the computer, my brother did it because we had some bad virus that couldn't be removed and emachine customer service told us this was the only way to fix it. (going back in time did not work)

I'd really rather not do that again if at all possible.

When you said that you only had a screen with Safe Mode in all 4 corners I automatically assumed that you did not have any more options available under Safe Mode. That has worked for a lot of people.

If you are still unable to get into Normal Safe Mode, continue the way you were going with Safe Mode and command prompt. Print out the fix first before entering Safe Mode

1. Download the VundoFix.exe program to C:\(It will be easier to find in Safe Mode)

2. When in Safe Mode with prompt, type cd.. as many times as required until your system prompt reads C:\

3. Locate VundoFix.exe and click on it to installthe program. The program will ask you for a destination, type C:\

4. You name have a Vundo Fix folder in the root directory C:\. Now use the cd\ command (Change directory) to to change the directory to C:\VundoFix, then repeat the procedure to enter the second Folder C:\Vundofix\Vundofix

5. Now give the following command to your system: dir and 4-5 files will appear.

6. Doubleclick on KillVundo.bat and continue with the fix as described above.

was never able to get into safemode to do any of the things you wanted me to do, but was at a party lastnight and a friend said to try norton removal tool again because it finally worked for her.
